What's the best coin you had come back from PCGS?

Over the years I have had decent success with submissions but also a few horror stories. I collected proof modern commemoratives but didn't submit them to PCGS until last year. More than 60% graded less than 69. I think it's the closest thing I do to gambling. My very best grade to come back was also my first submitted MS to be graded a 70. It was a 2001 MS70 2001 $10 gold eagle with a pop of 15. No picture but I'm sure you know what they look like. Sort of like my avatar. image

I was most delighted with getting an MS68 RD on a 1995 DDO Lincoln! A previous submission of a like coin netted an MS66RD so the 68 really tickled me!

I won't tell you about my horror stories............
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Over the years the following clad quarters came back from PCGS in MS-68:

    1968-D, 1969-D, 1979, & 1992-D

Those are decent grades for circulation strike coinage.

Nice job cupronik. I wish I could get graded quarters like that.

    For Lincolns I've got
    1963 ms67rd pop 4 (mine was #3)
    1967 ms67rd pop 6
    1969 ms67rd pop 4
    1972-d ms67rd I got pop 9 and 10
    1997 ms68rd pop 10 (I got #5 and #10)
    1984-d ms68rd I got pop 9 through 14
    1976-d ms67rd pop 15 (mine was #14 I believe)
Plus a ton of other dates with a pop 15-40 or so including 21 of the 44 ms67rd 81-d's.

I did a cross grade on a 1944 Newfoundland cent. Went in ICCS AU-55. Came Back PCGS MS-63 Brown. Check the pop reports to see how pleased I was.

I had a couple of nice crossover results. These both crossed at same to PCGS. The 1913 Matte Proof was in an ICG holder and the MS was a NGC coin. The MS is now a POP 1/0 coin.image

I was sort of happy when my raw 1867-s quarter was submitted to PCGS in August of 1986 and came back a MS66 (I was expecting 65).

In 1987 time frame I had a pair of raw New Orleans seated quarters that just graded NGC and PCGS MS MS64: 56-0 and 58-0. I sent each back raw to the opposite TPG and they both came back MS65. That was sort of neat. PCGS MS65 1856-0 and NGC MS65 1858-0.

I submitted a nice raw Texas 35-S that I thought was a sure thing MS65. PCGS didn't like my grading and gave it a MS67.

Submitted a 1925-d Mercury Dime in NGC MS66.
    Crossed at MS66. Pop 1/0

My best is the Unique FS 1968-D Jeffferson. I have had a ton of other very low pop's, and a few POP 1/0's from early Lincolns/jeffersons to 2006.

I used to cut up the 40% Bicentennial 3-coin sets to try and make a 68 Ike....'Tacked on a couple
of the 76-S Kennedy Halves one day at the end of a submission and one came back an MS69!image
That was my BEST coin ever....And I don't even collect Kennedys!image

    Best raw Ike was a 72-P Type 3 MS66.
    Best crossed Ike was a 72-P Type 2 MS65.

And I couldn't afford to keep ANY of them!image

    My favorites:

MS67 1971-D Ike. Bought raw off of eBay for $15.

MS67 business strike 1965 blast white Kennedy. A surprisingly tough coin (and it really, really was a business strike and not an SMS!).

My best was a raw 1880-O Morgan VAM 49 that came back MS63 image (pop 1/0 at PCGS, pop 2/0 on condition census, and one of just six examples known to exist in all MS grades combined.)
    When in doubt, don't.
