Big Chunk of silver from the Mexico mint

Can't find it in Krause, it is a Mint product and a pattern piece. Anybody have a reference.

    Awesome! image

Any idea why they would choose 1732 as the re-strike date? Did something special happen that year? Was it a one-year type?

None what so ever. It is part of a set that I picked up. It has a 1 onza 1/2 onza 1/4 onza and 1/10 onza of the same design.

Yea, I have that one two & came in a case, but somebody took out the smaller denominations. Not a standard issue coin and so would not be found in regular Krause but possible the Unusual version. Mexico City mint has made a lot of large "off" pieces, many in the 5 ounce size.

I believe it is mentioned but not pictured in Unusual World Coins although the date is 1987?

reference X MB50 12 Onzas 11.978oz of .999 silver on page 331. Series: Pillar Dollar celebrating the 14th International Numismatic Convention Mexico City. Crowned spanish arms on Obv., Spanish Colonial arms on reverse.

Mintage 4,800 pieces. A 5oz with identical obv/rev exists for the same year.
