  • He probably mentioned that because recently there have been a group of fake coins coming out of China (seated dollars, trade dollars, 8 reales, Chinese Junk dollars etc), that are supposedly silver coins but which are slightly magnetic. Enough to feel the attraction of amagnet but not enough to let you use the magnet to pick them up.
