Finally my first scan- Mantle Gradeable?

I think I finally figured it out. I used my new HP scanner and Photo bucket.

Is there an easier way than Photobucket?

What do you think this Mantle will grade at? I've had it since 1982.

Nice Mantle. I'd guess a 6 due to corner wear.

6 here as well. I always liked that card....

Lower corner wear may mean a "6" but if so, you can't ask for a nicer 6 than that. Awesome centering, great card!

    a nice 6.

    Good day 6.

Bad day and any tiny (invisible) surface crease, 5.

Great looking card. Grade it, and keep it.

1960 is my favorite Mantle. Not the most valuable,
but mighty pretty. The 1960 Maris card is pretty, too.

    7 would be my guess
  • I say a very nice 6. Very nice card!

High grade 6, maybe a 7, registration and color are sweet and centering is very nice which could push it into a 7 holder if you're lucky, which I think you will be.

Edit: Is there a crease on the back where it says "Mickey Mantle"? If so, you're looking at a 5 at best.

Nice card, but is that a pinhole on the right border?

  • No, its a small yellowish stain. PD

  • I think it is a 6 almost for sure. I had '60 Mantle that was centered very similar with a step up on the corners and it was given a 7, but damn it was beautiful. I think yours is a great looking card. It sounds disappointing to me that that card is a 6, but it is. Remember to take the wording of the grade into account with a card like this. Excellent!(Bill and Ted with the '80's guitar riff), Mint(so refreshing)image. What I guess I mean is that is a great Mickey!!! Enjoy it regardless of grade!!!image

In that case, I give it a PSA 6, but will command PSA 7 money because of the super centering. I had a 1951 Norm Van Brocklin in similar condition with great centering that ended up bringing more than a lot of 7s on ebay.

    6 with a PD qualifier.

Very nice looking card though, you wont find one nicer looking for the grade it will probably receive...definately one of my favorite Mantle cards.

There's nothing on that card that I see or read that will give it a PD qualifier. Card should be a straight 6 - easy call.

    Nice card!

I suppose its an " easy call " if you didnt happen to catch the print lines running the entire length of the card through Mickey Mantle, NY Yankees & outfield in the reverse. image

The print line isn't that noticable. No PD for that card. image

It doesnt have to be that noticeable to receive a PD qualifier, it just has to be there.

For the record, I am not at all trying to diminish the cards worth. I think its a really, really nice looking card.

PSA does have standards for grading though, and I think failure to notice factors like the print lines are one of the reasons some people get so dissapointed when their grades pop and they werent what they expected to receive.

Point understood, but I've seen many Topps 1960 baseball cards with print lines like that in straight 6 PSA slabs.

    I totally agree.

The graders neglect to give a good look at the back almost as often as we do it seems.

A little tip on scanning - if you will turn out the light and leave the lid up on your scanner, you will get a black background and the card will stand out much better. Try that and see if it doesn't make a difference. Nice card, btw!

    6. Zero chance at being a 7 with today's tougher grading for corners.

I would have mentioned print lines but on my monitor they do not show.

card looks great, color and centering are great as well...i'd like to have it in my collection.

on the back scan, do the top and bottom edges look altered in any way? i hope not for such a nice card.

    Thanks,
