Rivera goes from possible Head Coach position to unemployment?

From FoxSports.com:

The Bears have decided not to renew defensive coordinator Ron Rivera's contract.

At first glance, this is shocking news. But there have been signs in Chicago that Lovie Smith favored LB coach Bob Babich, who will be promoted to defensive coordinator. Rivera has been among the hottest assistants in the league the last two years, but apparently hasn't impressed in numerous head coaching interviews. With every defensive coordinator position accounted for, Rivera may have to take a step down in title to work in the NFL in 2007.

Well, when your employee is interviewing for every single job available, you may change your opinion on the guy. I say it was a good move. Besides, your defense was squashed in the big game in front of the entire world.

He's now a coach on the SD Chargers. Good move for him, another defense full of players. He had a rough last season, he had some big losses on his defense(2 pro bowlers) but that defense was good enough to win it all. He'll be the most likely to take over after Norv Turner once again crashes and burns.
