1862 Seated Liberty quarter~ ?
I am told though a common date that the 1862 is very difficult to find!
Is this true? Any advanced seated quarter collectors out there with an experienced thought on this date?
Thanks

Look at any you come across for the type 1 reverse. If you find one, let me know.

No idea what type the reverse is, or how to differentiate between the different types. Lathmach, care to expound a bit?

I saw 2 that were chain struck several years ago. I don't remember the date and mint. The seller wanted $2000 for them at the time.
I didn't have the money to buy them.

Can't say that without more information.... Definately depends on both numerical grade at PCGS and overall eye-appeal.

Please elaborate on what "chain struck" means. I have an assumption already formed, but want to make sure it's correct.

Two planchets straddled the dies and were struck at the same time,
having a design that was half on one, and half on the other.
Like an off center strike on both of them that matched perfectly.

PCGS* graded my quarter a healthy MS-62!
I'll scan it on here when I get it back home......
can anyone tell me what they think it would be worth?
( I realize your not seeing the coin and pricing plastic right now*)
thanks
Another forum member asked me about no motto reverses this morning of all things. So I had to refresh my memory.
The type 1 reverse has a concave (sunken) eagle's eye. The type 2 has a round and full appearing eye. The type 1 obverse ('59-60)
has no vertical shield stripes under "E" in liberty (above the scroll).
The type 2 does have the stripes extended. As Ray alluded to, a major transitional rarity could be sleeping out there. The easy way to remember these is the later versions are improvements, more correct or more appealing....imo.
