back to basics doing the 66 baseball in raw ex/ex-mnt

today i won a lot of 232 1966 topps baseball. I have always liked that set it was the 2nd I remm buying. anyways, I had around 300 different already so I placed those into the 9 pocket pages and wrote down the numbers I am missing. of the 232 I won today i needed 135 of them. the set is in strict ex/ex-mnt. no worries about low pops the set is being done raw. back to basics, for me on this one. what was good about the lot I won today was it was loaded with HOF'rs and hi numbers. the mantle I'll buy slabbed in a psa 5 or 6 slab and crack it out.

I started that set years ago - but it got put on the back burner.

I'll have to eventually dig it out and see what I need.

I've got the Mantle for the set - it looks like a 7 but has one of those production wrinkles on the back of the card - 5?

Good luck - I remember back around 1990 - Tuff Stuff rated the set as "boring." I disagree - it's simplicity is it's strength for me. But, then they gave the 55 and 56 sets a low rating due to the horizontal format - now due to size - they're more popular than ever I believe?

Personally I never liked Tuff Stuff's rating system for sets. I mean, who are they to tell us which sets are worth collecting and which are not? image

I think that's why they may have stopped putting the rating in the priceguide - I haven't seen it in years.

I always loved the '65 and '66 sets. They seem to get overshadowed by the '67, but I actually like some of the photos and card stock a bit better.

can't beat it, Im in for 82 cents a card. having more fun then when i built the monster 65 set in PSA 7-8 and 9 I was in for 30.00 a card for those.

yes, these cards are not Near mint or better. but I can see each and every one of them in the binder. I hope to have completed the set for between 500.00 and 700.00 dollars.

i'll even allow soem true VG cards in there as well.
