Anybody know whats going on with the SMR on-line?

There are quite a few sets missing...mostly from the 80's.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

  • Bunker, I've noticed the same thing. I emailed customer service yesterday but got no reply.

It looks like they added older sets and took away the more recent stuff. Not cool.

Anybody else out there with an idea?

Even when present, I've found SMR to be entirely worthless/irrelevant.

Im sure he is meaning that cards go for more or less than smr on ebay which really determines the value anyway.
  • SMR is a lazy publication with no attention to detail or current values of their own cards. It is embarrassing.

So what do you suggest for graded cards...just tracking on e-bay?

I think a FAR wiser thing to do when deciding to buy/sell a given card is to review past major auctions and -- of course -- eBay to see what you're likely to get. If you'll notice, SMR prices are stagnate for months/years at a time in the vast majority of cases.

The SMR publication has turned into a publication that advertises for whomever happens to throw the most advertising dollars at CU/PSA that given month -- Mastro, REA, Sotheby's, MemoryLane, Mile High, etc.

Are there any sites you recommend that can track individual cards? What is the cost?

    Thanks for your insight

  • Jerry,

    I use www.vintagecardprices.com

It's $9.99/month or $99.99/year. Well worth it in my opinion. However, I do believe they only track up to 1989. There is no pricing info for 1990-present. Hope this helps.
