What's Your Favorite GU Card?

This is not a debate on the merits of the practice but rather for people to show their favorite GU card they pulled.

I have never pulled a GU auto'ed card - this Jackie Robinson is my favorite GU bat card I have pulled over the past few years.

When I "returned" back to the hobby in '04, I thought GU was pretty darn cool.

Now I can't stand the sight of them. Still, I'm pretty found of this one. Probably the only GU of mine I'd still keep.

That Schilling would be a lot cooler if it was a game used bloody sock!

  • My favorite GU card is one that I don't own anymore.

Several years ago I was put in a really bad situation where I either had to take a pay cut or find a new job. I loved the kids I was working with and opted to take the cut. With it came less work responsibility so I could make money as a sub in the local school. The night I got the word I was pretty disappointed about the situation and went and bought a couple loose packs of cards at the store. In my pack of UD Baseball was a Rafael Palmeiro POH signed bat card serial numbered out of 25. I sold it the next day for $500, which really helped out under the circumstances.

    Rip

    IMO, ya did great!

You would never get 500$ now? I have a GU bat of his - now I can use it to start a fire if I was freezing to death?

There's no telling what it would sell for. When I sold it, the card went to a guy who claimed that he had one of the greatest Palmeiro collections in the world. Talk about ouch.
  • Does it have to be a card? image

Tonya pulled the only one we ever pulled. It was a good one though. It was a 1 of 1 Jersey card of Maddux, Wood, Prior and Zambrano. Sold it on ebay for $175ish if memory serves.

  • I'll share another story, even though this one didn't come from a pack.

My wife is a great supporter of my sports memorabilia love and is a sports fan as well. She gets enjoyment as well from opening packs. We're big fans of the Cubs and she pulled a Sammy Sosa autograph redemption from a pack of SP Authentic a few years ago.

Before we got married, we decided to give gifts to one another, even though we didn't have a lot of money to spend. It was the winter of 2000 and I had been buying packs of Yankees Legends in search of the Joe DiMaggio #5 bat card with no luck. For my gift she bought me the card for my collection. It's dropped in value but is one of the more special cards I have.
