Grey Flannel vs ASI Peyton Manning GW Jerseys

Another situation where I'm asking the same thing to multiple boards for feedback. Thanks in advance for your input.

Today I had some time for some searches and decided to check out the Grey Flannel website to see about their upcoming auction. On their site, they had just sold a Peyton Manning game worn home uniform from 2002. Final sale price: $6,500.

Tonight a Manning home uniform from 2005 sold on ebay. This jersey was from ASI. The jersey was acquired through the Colts organization and had all of the necessary documentation. Final sale price: under $1,900.

Anyone else surprised at the differential in prices? Did the Grey Flannel sell for too much? Did the ASI sell too low?

I don't know about the price.

    But I have a question...

I thought ASI works/contracts "directly" with the player - I didn't know they got stuff from the team?

    Just curious.

The ASI folks had 4 Colt jerseys up for sale before the Manning sold with three different statements in the auctions. For the Reggie Wayne jersey, they received his jersey directly from him. For two other jerseys, the auction said they were purchased directly from the Colts. On the Manning jersey, it said that it was "sourced through the Colts organization". Since hte bidding was $500 at the time, I called and asked what that means and they said that they could verify that they acquired it through someone in the Colts with documentation.

They also told me that they are licensed by the NFL to sell game used items from the NFL. In regards to getting items directly, I don't know who Peyton has a deal through in regards to his memorabilia. I'm pretty sure that had ASI acquired the jersey directly from Peyton that they would have stated that in the auction.

    Does ASI guarantee authenticity?

I have a few ASI stuff - but they were supposedly directly from the player under contract.

Yeah, they stand behind their product. When I spoke with them I asked about their refund policy and they stated that they have a tamper proof hologram on the uniform and the matching COA. I even went as far to ask if they would give a full refund if I sent it to MEARS and it came back without their approval and they said they would. I have several ASI certified items and have never questioned the authenticity of any of it. Granted, I have some items that have been authenticated by Grey Flannel and ASI, but I trust both groups.

I am of the opinion that Grey Flannel is the more regarded seller of memorabilia, but I don't know that I understand a $5,000 differential in price.

After doing some additional searching the Grey Flannel uniform was purchased by Fleer initially for the purpose of making GU cards. When they had their auction, it ended up being sold at Grey Flannel.
