What you guys think?

I am collecting the 1955 bowman set and have a few good cards already, still missing the Mantle. Lately been looking around every where and haven't found a PSA 8 or better bowman for a fair price. Looked on Naxcom and found this one, looks great but the grading company not so sure of.
I really want a '55 Mantle in a 9 and this one looks great but I want to know what you guys think.

What's their return policy?
The guy wants a fraction of the SMR? Is that correct - he wants 1100 for an 8K card?
For that kind of dough - why doesn't the seller send it to PSA? His ROI on the cross would be substantial.

<< <i>It LOOKS real nice - however, as Stone says, he'd be leaving a LOT of $ on the table. Purely out of generosity??? - I'd have my doubts! >>
That's my point Orig - I would want to have the time to send it to PSA for review.
There's a good possibility the card's been trimmed and I can't think of a better issue to recolor?

Sadly, we all know why.
Happily, none of us have to send the guy money to know the answer.
Just joshing...........his name is listed, why not phone him?
Steve
I'm worried about trimming and recoloring.

edit: mikeschmidt is our resident expert on this issue - would be nice if he chimed in.
Thanks,

Members who have crossed over cards from their holders have generally had decent results (most cards crossed to same grade or 1 grade lower).
Would you be happy to pay that price for a PSA 8?

yes they were, but didn't they go down in that grade and trade fiasco?

The only thing I remember about grade n trade - had to do with a company called Real Legends - where PSA graded the cards and then they were to be sold on ebay.
I want to say that somehow WIWAG sunk Real Legends and they blamed PSA for it?
Or something like that?

Could have been nicely stored with "loose" rubber bands which would account for the edge chipping but nice corners, but doubtful for a PSA 8 unless you luckily get that late Friday afternoon tired grader who just quickly looks at the corners and gives it an 8...again an interesting gamble.
No way he is giving 7K gifts to strangers.

If you pay $8K for one in a PSA holder you will get what you want.
Listings like this are not a gamble; they are traps set for sharp-shooters.
Seller has 1600 reported transactions on the site. He knows what he has
and he knows what it is worth,... and why.

Well spoken.
As previously reported, we were named as a co-defendant in a legal action brought in the Superior Court of California, County of San Diego, by Real Legends, Inc., a seller of sports cards (plaintiff) against When It Was a Game (WIWAG), a sports card dealer that consigned sports cards to plaintiff. In the action, plaintiff was seeking $4 million of compensatory damages alleged to have been sustained by it as a result of certain actions of WIWAG, together with punitive damages. Plaintiff also claimed that, although we were not involved in any of WIWAG’s activities, we were nevertheless responsible for WIWAG’s conduct because, according to plaintiff’s allegations, WIWAG was introduced to plaintiff by one of our employees who allegedly knew of, but failed to disclose, prior incidents of questionable behavior by WIWAG; allegations that we denied.
In January 2005, without any admission of wrongdoing, we entered into a settlement with plaintiff. Pursuant to that settlement, all of the claims asserted against us by plaintiff were settled and the litigation was terminated, with prejudice, in exchange for which we agreed to make a settlement payment to plaintiff of $600,000, of which $100,000 will be paid, or reimbursed to us, by one of our insurers. As a result, the net cost to us of the settlement was $500,000, which represents 3.1% of our net revenues in the six months ended December 31, 2004.
Not to go OT here - sorry for the hijack - but wasn't this the company that crashed and burned due to grade and trade Steve?
PSA made a settlement on the lawsuit.

yep. I still say the top and bottom looks very suspicious. And like mentioned the seller is seasoned seller. Why does he not just crack it out and submit it to PSA? Even if it came back a 7 he would still get more I would think. Only problems can arise from this deal.

Is looks like a large amount of chipping to me.
I don't collect the 55s but I kind of recollect that like the 68T and 70T cards - there's the potential of a printline - I'm assuming it's a printer's guide on the uncut sheet.
edit: check out the print line on the top e.g.
