Heres a nice card I pulled today.

Well it was my usual Friday. I went Down to hang out out my local card shop for awhile and chew the fat. We were talking about the 2007 topps that should be coming out next week. I noticed he still had a box of 06 topps on the shelf so what the helll I said i'll buy it lets rip it.

Ripped all the packs and started looking the inserts up in beckett. Holy chit I thought it said this card was worth 35.00 a second look and I realized this modern piece a chit books for 350.00.

Anyone know why this card is so valuable and who the heck is Bobby Jenks Of course I'm putting it on the bay and getting rid of it quick before the down arrow comes alongimage

  • Yeah it was a world series game used glove. Shoot I had to check last months beckett to make sure the book price wasn't a typo
  • Bobby Jenks throws the ball hard, real hard

Even his slider hits 88 mph

    Dave
  • Does it say on the back of the card, game used in the World series glove? The photo on the card is of him pitching in the WS using a black glove and the card has a piece of a brown glove.

Keep it up and 80sJ is gonna pull that auction down and keep the card!! image
  • Gary,

Is it, like, serial numbered or refractorized or something?

    Arthur
  • Well the good thing about this card is you won't have to worry if it is trimmed, re-colored, authentic, washed, miscut, pressed or anything else

    Nice pull
  • Piece of a glove inserted into a card?

    Ahhhhhhhhh, the silliness.

  • Not sure is this the first time they have ever used a piece of glove in a relic card?
  • ahhhh I hate game used glove cards. It's about as worthless to cut up as vintage game used memorabilia. Player's use fielding gloves for usually atleast 1 full season, unlike stuff like jersey's and bats. And players like Andruw Jones use their gloves for up to 3 years. I don't think they should be cutting them up if they're THAT rare IMO

No, it's not. Gloves have been around for years in cards. The market hasn't quite caught on to how few pieces you get from a glove compared to a jersey and how players don't want to regularly switch gloves.

The supply of these will always be a lot more limited than most other GU cards.

    Interesting...

This GU jersey card went for a penny.

    image

Not sure how rare this is - did you put it up on a BIN - best offer thing?

A guy tried to sell his GU cleats on a BIN for 600$ - no soap.

    Good luck 80s!

I must be getting older---every game that i saw Mr. Jenks pitch in, he came out with a black glove. I would "assume" the whole glove to be black. That piece was brown.....and i will leave it at that.

    Interesting point carew

If ya look at the pic with the GU glove - it's black isn't it?

    Hmmmmm....interesting again.

    Don't ya just love conspiracies.

  • thats a nice card 80sj
  • Just like I thought, the back says nothing about the glove being game used in the World Series. Topps is tricky saying Bobby Jenks is a World Series Champion on the back.
  • Holy chit I just sold this thing on ebay for $400 and it only books at $350.00 must be something special about this thing. Oh well not a bad return on a $30 boximage

Seeing those WS Jenkins cards are breaking my heart image
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

  • I might be one of the only people in the world that has the whole set. Here's the quick rundown. These World Series relic cards were inserts in the 2006 Topps Series 1 set. The set has a total of 17 cards, and they were distributed in different tiers. The three cards that were the toughest to pull were all #/100 (although this isn't printed on the back of the card). The Jenks glove card, the Buehrle glove card, and the Everett grey uniform card are all really hard pulls. I don't believe the gloves or jerseys are actually world series game used....just only 2005 game used. It's a cool set for a White Sox fan.

  • nice sale, but for a CLOSER????? how many closers have RCs that are over $50???? Rollie Fingers is the only one i know of (and The Eck don't count; he started half of his career). this guy won't be any different. nobody respects a save. you get points for simply not screwing up!! Reminds me of one of the greatest fallacies in baseball history when Willie Hernandez won AL MVP with 32 saves. nowadays, closers fart that many.....

    congrats gary

  • brian26 just curious how much it cost you to put that set together?
  • I didn't keep track, and thankfully so since it would probably make me ill image

It was probably close to a grand.
