Cutting out the box-bottom cards, best practices?

What's the best way to cut out box-bottom cards if you're looking to get them graded?

I am not sure of the answer. I would just use some sharp scissors.

Do you know where I can get a 2006 Topps Albert Pujols box bottom? I have looked for months.

  • Worth more attached to the box. But, if you must; AC Moore has a precision paper cutter for around $20. Just go beyond the card border a wee bit when cutting, if you intend on a numerical grade.
PS; Scissors will produce a wavy cut. Try it out on scrap cardboard before proceeding.

Well, the box bottoms, for the most part, have at least 1 really messed up card among them, either from being scuffed away or having a corner of the box crunched. They were already cut away from the box as a 4 card panel for storage. I've also got some of those old "Baseball Card Magazine" cards from the 80s-90s that would look kinda cool with the other cards in my collection.

I believe the person who has done the nicest job cutting and getting 10s is A761506 - aka Josh.

I believe some are using a high quality laser guided trimmer - but if this is the only item you have?

I would say - a brand new exacto blade and a high quality metal ruler for guidance.

I would practice on something similar in thickness?

  • I've gotta figure it out too.....

I just found a box of bottoms that were originally from my retail store that closed in '94. I used to save all the box bottoms from the wax that I sold. There are piles and piles of them....along with oddball BBC Magazine sheets and Sports illustrated sheets.

Hoards and hoards of junk....no wonder my 3 car garage only holds ONE car!! lol
