Keith Foulke to retire

BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,460 ✭✭✭✭✭
saw it on espn.com

He felt some elbow pain in the past few days and decided to call it quits. I will now completely forget his 2005-2006 performances and remember him for his superior play in the 2004 playoffs. I wish him well.

Must be nice. I pulled my hamstring last week and it hurt for a few days. I was gonna retire, but I realized that I don't make baseball player money, and that I'd have to stick it out for a couple more years (decades).

what espn didn't report was that Keith Foulke is going to work with his friend Johnny at Burger King. He loves us common people and has dedicated his next career to demonstrating that.

Thanks, I'm starting to dislike him again for his "performance" in 05-06.

Foulke said some stupid things over the last few seasons, and of course the media picked them up and ran with them. He has never been the same pitcher, health-wise, since the end of 2004. I thought his attitude toward the game these past few seasons was questionable, but it had to have been frustrating for him to pitch with all of his injuries and live up to the fans high expectations of him.

In any event, his contributions to the World Series champions of 2004 were right up there with any other player on that team - that should be his legacy.

Yep. I think most agree that he should have been the MVP of the series and not Manny. It was painful to watch him these last two years, and his surly attitude didn't help either, but I'm going to forget all that and just remember him for '04. Especially that last pitch that made Red Sox history.

Why did he fade so fast? He went from great in 2004 to retirement.

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

    He probably never took steroids.

he suffered a breakdown (physical, not mental) with the white sox, then bounced back with the A's,
guess his arm is just worn out, maybe his desire to compete is gone too.

kinda reminds me of John Wetteland, what happend to him? he just kinda disappeared (think he had 30 saves his last season in 99 or 2000)
