Packet to Turkey

Has anyone ever mailed to Turkey and, if so, how did you CYA to make sure the package arrived safely? I'll be sending a $250 medal to a new customer in Turkey and I have him paying via credit card by PayPal. Obviously I haven't done business in Turkey before and I can't erase visions of "Midnight Express" from my memory. Any suggestions? Thanks. S

I agree, no insurance available this way but registered mail has an excellent chance of getting there and the total of $15.95 is comfortable in view of the selling price.
Ed to add: midnight express was a good movie but I doubt your auction piece poses any great temptation by comparison to the movie's risk/reward scenario.
Having said that, you might do better to send it airmail letter post at 6 oz. or less and your total charge is $4.80.
I know, no insurance (figuratively speaking) but I bet it will get there, flying under the radar without any problem.
Everything I sell is shipped under Laurentian Books and packaged to look like that- never any problems.

<< <i>From everything I've read and heard, the only way to satisfy PayPal is to have the item sent Global Express for about $37. From what I've heard, any other way will not satisfy PayPal if the buyer files a payback. >>
I'm assuming the Global Express provides for electronic (internet) verification of delivery.

To obtain higher insurance, you have to step up to airmail parcel post, generally $15 to $20, plus $12 and up for USPS insurance to a maximum of $880.00
It makes shipping items of $1000 and up a little awkward.
How have other forum members dealt with shipping at that price level?

<< <i>Hey, I'm still agonizing about how I'm going to ship an upcoming eBay item of mine: a complete 19th century San Marino type set in a nice grade.
