I need to quit bidding on "NM-MT PSA?"
I'm putting together a raw 1968 Topps Twins team set so this auction seemed like a winner. Normally when a seller does some keyword spamming like putting PSA? in the title it means run like hell. For whatever reason it didn't click this time. The no returns should have also clicked. A couple of bad signals but the seller has 100% positive 900+ feedback. Cards came in the mail in EX to EXMT at best. Here is what the description had in it: "Cards range from Near Mint+ to Mint+ and have fantastic centering, great color and gloss, razor sharp corners, and contains no creases or marks of any kind. Get them graded!" That last sentence was quite ironic since the seller appears to have already graded the best cards from the set as he has an assortment of 8's listed right now. Will see if I get a full refund otherwise I'll be happy to leave him his first red blob. I get the occasional garbage like this once in a while but it is still cheaper for me to buy raw commons and hope for the best than picking them up in slabs.

First of all, if you are buying raw from someone who primarily sells graded, you should ask anyone who has bought from "New England Sportscards" if that is a wise move.
If someone is citing PSA in the title or description and they are selling raw cards, then they are in violation of eBay's rules and personally I would walk away. I know you know this as you stated, but if a big clear scan is shown you have a better idea of what you are rolling the dice on. That is not the case here. His scan sucks. Also, the 68's are a real tough issue to pick up corner flaws off of a scan, as I'm sure you are well aware of. Chit, I can't even spot them in person sometimes. There are a lot of great 68's out there which is why the price is somewhat low on minor stars and commons. But when you bid on a lot where you think you'll get screwed, you probably will.

This scan is very poor.
If they know what they've done, they'll probably refund your money and tell ya to keep the cards.
Glad ti was only a few bucks - good luck.

Shameful description of these cards!

Especially when you see an oversized scan. I'll let the image speak for itself. Gotta love a seller calling a card MINT+. That is like saying it is a PSA 10. This card would probably grade a 4 at best given the small crease on back. Taking my usual one half to full grade deduction from the advertised condition when I buy raw means I would have been happy with something approximating a low end NM 7. I pretty much have to buy something advertised as NM+ or better to approximate NM.

NewEnglandSportsCards is the ID that Roger the Troll uses to peddle his off grade stuff. I bought a lot of NM-MT 'vending' from him about a year ago, and 20% of the cards were creased.
Always assume that every raw card on Ebay is EX-MT at best unless you:
a) Have had extensive dealings with the seller before, or
b) Have enormous scans to review.
Using this quick and easy rule has saved me no end of headaches over the years.
