Wow, this would've been an awesome 1977 set if we had the money to get it. :(

1977 Topps set; ended at $233

Wow, and I thought the 1977 Topps set was typically around $150ish or so. I guess this seller was not kidding about the quality of this raw set, eh? Wonder if the buyer will make any profit getting the blue chips graded. image

There is not one "blue chip" that looks good. Were you seriously considering it?

    My Auctions
  • The corners look as advertised though I'm always nervous when someone says "razor sharp" as my last purchase was anything but. Most of the star cards he shows are 70-30 centering so looks like a lot of blue chip 8's. I don't see the buyer making a lot of money here unless he has a very good eye for pulling 10's on the commons.

    My Auctions
  • Perhaps your monitor has better resolution than mine. Sometimes I add an auction to my watch list from home and then give it a better look when I am at work where the monitor seems to have a more fine resolution to better decipher corner wear. If I ever start throwing around big money on eBay I'll be sure to upgrade the home PC.

Centering is very tough on those 77s, does not take much to make a card OC, I believe.

Indeed, and for this issue, you got those billboards on the back, and they don't look too good if they're not reasonably centered.

Oh yes! I need a really nice 1976 and 1977 Topps set and as the final bid indicates, they're pretty hard to find.

Incidentally, I only need them for my permanent collection; I myself would not have bothered with grading.

  • Hey Estil,

I also had this set on my watch list and could not believe the price it closed at either.

I would be real curious to know how "mint" that set really is..... I have a feeling the buyer may be disappointed.
