I thought that if you cashed a check for partial payment, they could say it was for payment in full and you are hosed.

who says you can't write on the front of the check payment $663 of $2000 if he doesn't?, the bank cashes it, it's now a photographed document.

take a picture of it yourself before cashing it...

Aside from merely verifying funds on the check, you may want to verify that the checks are not counterfeited/forged before you attempt to cash them. Trust me on this.

This does not sound right. I think he is stalling for time (again).

I mean, does it make any sense to you, or just sound like another load of hooey?

He's owed you the money for a year. He should be getting an advance from AMEX to pay you and then pay AMEX back.

    edited because I can't punctuate.

    Greetings,
I own a business and went to court here in Fl. I admitted to accepting a post dated check that bounced. I was told its against the law to accept a post dated check. I go to court and get screwed. I always cash one that i am asked to post date now. I make them make it payable to me personally not the business.

<< <i>TSince you mailed him the proof sets, also let him know that you will be filing charges with the Postal Service through the Postal Inspector. >>

This might be the quickest resolution. The USPS does surprisingly well in resolving issues of mail fraud.
