Shiney cards with protective coating?

Do you remove or keep the coating? Personally, I hate the coating and normally remove it. Then again, I'm never going to resell the cards, so I don't need to worry about resale. What do others do?

What about prices for graded cards? For the same grade, would you rather have a coating or not? Personally, I'd pay more for a PSA 10 without the coating, as it lets the card shine as intended.

I've seen them in holders with the coating on - very hard to see the card.

My preference - take it off. For resale? I would say - better on.

I rip them off. Very unsightly if you ask me. Of course the coatings are not for looks anyway just for protection.

Now there will be some exceptions when I will leave them on. The Emmitt master set has cards listed with and without coatings. If I intend on finishing set, I will have to leave some on
  • A few of mine have the coating, but those are only the ones that I purchased that were already graded. It really detracts from the visuals, so on the ones I have I take off the coating.

PSA will take the condition of the coating into consideration when grading the card. If the coating is perfect, leave it alone. If its not, remove it.
