Need some more advice with Ebay

Ok so here is todays fun. I have sold a bunch more cards as of late on ebay. It has been my policy that I leave feedback when I know the other party has received the product and is happy. I know some think feedback should be immediate and I understand that as well. Here is my issue. I get this message from a guy I sold a $10 card to saying if I dont leave him positive feedback now he will be forced to leave me neutral or negative feedback for what he calls "Poor Communication" by not leaving feedback first. So I message him back saying I dont like threats and if there is a problem with the purchase or you are un happy with the card let me know so we can work it out. Otherwise I will leave feedback when you do. So now he says I am "Scr@@ about his approach to this. I really dont feel I have done anything wrong, when I purchase products some people leave feedback right away others wait till I do its just part of Ebay. So here is the question. AM I IN THE WRONG??? image

"I really dont feel I have done anything wrong, ..."

The only thing you did wrong was to communicate
    with a feedback-psycho.

Requests for premature FB should always be ignored.

There is now way someone should leave a negative feedback for a good transaction just because Feedback wasn't left for them in their mind's timeline. I think he is being assinine for threatining to leave a neg at all. He must not have enough to worrry about if this gets his panties in a wad. Once you get to a couple hundred feedback it doesn't really matter that much anyway.

  • Feedback is optional. He is abusing the feedback system. Copy his email and save it for later. I believe you'll rate having this peepeehead's negative or neutral removed.

    Feedback Extortion;

Threatening to leave negative or neutral feedback for another member unless the other member provides goods or services not included in the original listing is not permitted.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

    Listing cancellation

    Limits on account privileges

    Account suspension

Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

    Loss of PowerSeller status

  • My belief is that a transaction is not complete until the buyer has received his or her item and is happy with it. Rating a buyer is more than just how quickly they have paid, though a swift payment is nice and appreciated, how well a customer handles any issues that arise are just as important. Since we are all human there are issues that sometime arise, such as the post office is slowwww, or they hold a package at the post office, these are things I have no control over, there are also mistakes made, though I try very hard to be perfect, these issues do happen. I will leave feedback when a transaction is completed to everyone's satisfaction. How I know that a buyer is happy is when they receive their item and either email me to tell me of the reciept, or they leave me feedback, in either case I will at that time leave feedback.

    What is this buyer's name?

    Do you have a link?

    Thanks
  • Copy his email and save it for later.

Good point, but make sure you are emailing him through ebay and not your email address.
  • I understand how critical some people think feedback is, but from a perspective of time, I don't see what the big deal is with getting feedback eventually--I mean, I tend to do my feedback all at once when I have a list of 25+ to leave for. Goes much faster to do it all at once and my time is important to me. On the one occasion that someone gave me the feedback now BS, I politely told him how I do my feedback and that buyer let it go...

His threats could be considered feddback extortion, no?
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

I am unaware of one instance where EBAY has determined that
such controversies constitute FB-extortion, under their TOS.

This has been discussed dozens of times on EBAY's boards.

    Completely agree.
  • Give him your phone number or ask for his. Don't play his game on-line. Deal with this by phone.

Knuckleheads usually sober up when they're asked to be accountable about what they said. Keeping it on an email level won't get you anywhere.

    Good luck.

storm888 is correct. Once you get over the shock of getting a neg, and I know it's painful, you won't worry about it quite as much. If you give in, it is another nail in the coffin of a broken feedback system.

I mean, there are sellers with multiple thousand transactions with 100% fb. How can this possibly happen unless they are being disingenous about how they rate buyers and vice versa.

As far as that buyer is concerned, tell us who it is so we can block them from our auctions.

I would just leave the guy positive feedback and move on. It sucks but I don't think he has done anything "wrong" so I don't think Ebay will care to get involved. Hopefully he will leave you a positive (or no feedback) and it's over. If he negs you then tell Ebay about it. Good luck.
  • def. feedback extortions. what a douche
Everyone should set up bogus accounts, then bid on this clowns items (if he is a seller) than carpet bomb him with negatives!

I too will wait to leave feedback until the item arrives safely. Thats when the transaction is complete, not when you cash the check or take the paypal payment.

    good luck with this clown.

There's always a Gandhi around, always....

What do you mean he has done nothing wrong?

That's called extortion. The guy's a bully and should be treated like one.

Which means you stand up to the guy - and block him like I have!

Thank you for the compliment. image

I started a feedback thread a couple years ago so I have been in this seller's place. Worried about getting a neg, what comes first the chicken or the egg, etc....

Bottom line, for ME, is I am too busy to worry about it. Gandhi or not I just don't think it's a big deal.

I sold a card last week and guy paid by PayPal. He immediately sent me a separate email saying that he paid and "please leave feedback right away." You know what I did? I left him feedback right away. I thought about emailing him about feedback protocol and how some people see it one way and some another... but WHY? I don't need to be "right" all the time. I left him the positive, he got the card, he left me positive and we are all happy.

Life is way too short to get worried about feedback retalition in my opinion.
