Thanks for the link. I have to say I am not surprised by the finding that they were not what legend purported .

I wasn't clear why I thought the article was interesting....and no......I never thought they would be a beautiful couple.

I meant "The size of a modern 5p piece, the artefact from 32BC was in a collection belonging to the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle, which is being researched in preparation for the opening of a new Great North Museum."

I can't figure out how to hightlight the part about the new museum

I don't know why they claim this is new research. Cleopatra coins have been known for a long time and they've always had the same portrait. image

This story has now gone national.

Here's another coin of Cleopatra from the Wildwinds data base:

I'd like to say this is ingenious marketing, but the media are suckers for this crap so it's not terribly impressive.

And how exactly is what was done considered "research" or "study"?? They've got one coin and a lot of blather to go along with it.

What do you think our opinion would be of Spanish emperor Ferdinand VII if we took a look solely at this coin???

That's not to say the finding isn't true. I just wish "news" didn't give credence to sloppy work.
