Just wanted to share my latest ebay win. Im pretty pumped!

Just won it minutes ago image If I have one complaint it would be the fact that the brain surgeons at Star Pics put the sticker over #22 in the autograph

    Congratulations Matt

That's a sweet auto card and definitely puts you in the rarified air of the elite Emmitt collectors!

I've never seen the card before - kind of interesting.

What's the more scarce auto cards to have?

Have you shown us an auto RC?

    thanx for sharing

  • Great card, congrats image
  • Come to think of it, I did buy from him once. He sent a very expensive card $1000+ in a bubble mailer. It also had the card title on the shipping label. Thought that was dumb. Insurance $1 per $50 seems very high. Also, he had a 2001 Donruss Signature Albert Pujols PSA 10 he was selling that the certification # didn't show up in PSA database. Asked questions but got no response. He still sold it for $1500 to somebody.

    Matt, PM sent.

I recently purchased this card from him ...

    image

... the PSA cert checked out ok.

They've been a seller since '98 and usually have some high-end cards for sale. So, I'll be crossing my fingers as well - lol?!
  • lawnmowermanlawnmowerman Posts: 19,477 ✭✭✭✭
I checked the cert on mine too. It checked out fine as well. We shall see image

Nothing to do with the seller, but that is one UGLY signature by Leinart. It looks like it belongs on the Rosetta Stone.

  • So a few questions for the masses...

This same seller had a Favre Star Pics Auto sell last night too...

1.) Recently I have noticed the Favre Auto in the holder backwards. Is this the norm for PSA these days? All of the ones I have seen up until a few weeks ago were in the holder the "normal" way.

2.) The card linked above, and LMM's Emmitt card are the first I have seen where the PSA/DNA certification number IS NOT on the label. Is this a new practice for PSA?

Here is a card that I have typically seen until recently. This is not my card. I dug this one out of the registry...

Any thoughts or insight would be helpful.
  • That Lienart Auto is horrible. Those things annoy me and it's a sticker auto on top of it. The Emmitt is pretty cool though

GPA is important to me. If its low pop or kinda on the "rare" (I dont like to say rare) side I would send it in as long as it would pull at least a 7. I also sent some cards in to be graded that had sentimental value.

I do however prefer 10's especially being a modern set image

The Favre is signed on the back of the card. The Emmitt is signed on the front. PSA has slabed many of these that are questionable authenticity. From what I have gathered the cards signed on the front have the clear star pics sticker and the ones signed on the back have gold stickers. Also the reason the sticker is on the 22 is because star pics put the stickers on the cards so that they were touching the autograph.

Yes, I read that somewhere once. Star pics made it a point to do that. I just wish it was touching the auto on mine and not on top of it image

Its a legit Emmitt auto, no doubt. I have seen plenty of fake ones. Before I got "good" at spotting them, I accumulated a few image

FYI, All of the authentic star pics autos (that is, ones that were box pulled) have the sticker touching the autograph. All those Favre ones you see signed on the front almost always have the sticker on the back or the sticker isn't touching the auto. In fact, the ones on the back rarely are touching the auto as well, a clear indication they are fakes. Beckett actually had a write-up about these not all that long ago in the "Ask the grader" column. I believe his words were something to the effect of "I can't think of a single time I've seen an authentic autograph from this set that didn't have the sticker touching the autograph"

It would seem to me to display that the auto was there before the sticker, the theory being that peeling a sticker off any other auto card would wreck the card and not stick to a different card. That however is not the case.

FWIW, shoeless-joe has been a long time submitter to BGS and has long been rumored to be a bonafide card trimmer. Not saying he snuck one past PSA either in the auto or grade department, but that is the general consensus with the stuff he had from BGS (On the grades that is).

    Nice pick-up by the way.
