Carroll would want too much control so that probably isn't going to happen.

The most likely candidates at this point are Rex Ryan Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator,
Ron Rivera Chicago Bears defensive coordinator, or June Jones head coach at the University of Hawaii.

Nobody needs to worry any about the Chargers.
They're the favorites to win the Super Bowl next year no matter who ends up being their head coach.

I think Pete Carroll would be a huge step in the wrong direction for team like the Chargers. The Chargers need to think their decision through here as they were arguebly the best team in the NFL last year and dont need drastic changes to bring itself to the Super Bowl.

yeah, Pete would love to step into that job..a team that is already at a very high spot. He would hope that they would get
it done and everyone would stop saying what a loser this guy is a the pro level.

...or maybe Pete is getting scared in the college game. I can see Pete talking with the Chargers GM:

Pete: Ah yes, we can schedule our own games right? I want to play the Browns 4 times and the Niners 6 times...make sure they are
all home games. Does Hawaii have a pro team?

  • I dont think he will go, but It IS the only job I can see him taking,I wouldnt be shocked if he took it. Then again, it must be nice getting all the top recruits banging on his door every year.

  • Chargers seem like a good fit, but I have no idea why he would want to leave USC. Mike Martz would be a good fir for the Chargers. DaBeef...I love Lisa
  • Funny thing is everyone here killed Jerry Jones for choosing Wade Phillips as his next coach but i heard Chris Mortenson say that Phillips would've been the 1st choice for HC for the Chargers

  • if they want to win all there games they should just load up with 16 straight games against the bucs! lol

Big mistake for Carroll. He should stay at USC

  • I don't see him leaving USC, but as a coach I can see how if an opportunity like that arose I'm not sure anyone would turn it down. Lets' face it, you're replacing a guy who has a lifetime 5-13 playoff record. 38.4 winning %. With all that young talent on San Diego, it's a given that any coach would want to make himself available for this gig.

Despite his cozy situation at SC, I think Carroll still has a chip on his shoulder and wants to succeed at the NFL level, and SD is about as good a job as he can hope to get coming from college football. I also believe, though, that his style of coaching is much better suited at the NCAA level, though he did have some success at NE after that debacle with the Jets.

USC had great coaches including John McKay and John Robinson. Both of these coaches hit their stride at USC and no one can argue that they were not great at USC. However, in the NFL, neither enjoyed the same success and both would have been better off not leaving... arguably Robinson never would have been Coach had McKay not taken the position at Tampa Bay. Both of these guys were Class Acts. Carroll has a great thing going and making a change now really is not going to help him in the long run.

Not to mention it is a lot to ask for a college coach to come in and turn an NFL franchise around, few coaches have been given the keys to an already loaded franchise, other than Barry Switzer and George Seifert (I believe he took the 49'ers over right out of college) its a tuff assignment. This situation with the Chargers might be one of those situations, though as I said earlier it might be a HUGE mistake for the Chargers to take the gamble.
