Thanks to my my friend Shane Leonard, I have completed my 58th vintage/semi-vintage set in psa 8 or better--1967 Topps Red Sox Stickers. Shane has sold me cards in the past and is best known(by me at least) for assembling the best 1934-36 Batter-Up set and the top 1971 Topps Greatest Moments Set. I believe he has since sold them both and the gentleman that he is, Shane gave me first shot at both of these sets.
The final two cards Shane sold me were the George Smith(pop 6 in 8 with none higher) and the Yaz for mayor card(pop 7). I submitted this set raw about 9 months ago(having bought it a decade or so ago from Mr. Mint I believe) and got mostly 8s with three of 9s and a few less. The two cards above and the Tony C is my hero card(still just a pop 4) were the tough ones. Duncan Harvey sold me the Tony C. Loved the Red Sox teams from this era--Joy Foy, Dalton Jones and my homie Yaz(he played baseball for Bridgehampton High on Long Island while I played some 15 years later for Westhampton Beach HS. were among my favorite players.
The set is complete with 30 psa 8s and 3 psa 9s and ranks 5th with a 8.07 set rating brehind such well know hobby figures as Jeff Britton(Luxury Wines), 707 Sportscards, EJ Guru(Eric Sanders) and Steve Wysocki. I will let it rest at this level.
My goal continues to be 100 sets in PSA 8 or better with an interim goal of 70 sets complete by year-end 2007.
Completed sets in PSA 8 or better are as follows:

Jim is there anyone that you know of that has as many completed PSA 8 sets as you?
Jake
Thanks--each set has its own unique story. That other collectors/set registry participants are playing a huge role in my quest makes it even more rewarding.
Cravetopps,
Thanks and thank you for the 52T Busby.
Shane,
Thanks for all your help. Keep me posted on the 67T Pirates Stickers and 52 Topps.
Marc,
Off to a good start but I do not want to get overconfident. In many of the sets where I need 1 or 2 cards, the cards do not exist in 8 or are pop 1s or pop 2s.
Ron,
Hey--come on.Maybe for 1970 Kelloggs someone could say nah, but this is a real semi-vintage set.
Greg,
Congrats--63 Fleer will hopefully happen for you soon.
Jake,
Noone in sports. Bill Bengen in non-sports has 120 or so sets from the 50s and 60s. Not sure how many of these are psa 8 or better, however.
Jim
Thanks for the congrats--look forward to buying more cards from you in the future.
Jim
Its always easier when there are guys like you and Shane checking my sets and selling me cards I need.
Thank you.
Jim
Thanks--I agree.
I talk a lot about my sets that are complete in psa 8 or better but for sets in which 8s are extraordinarily difficult my first priority is to complete them. I have taken this stance with 52 Bowman Large and Small and even 60 Fleer where the Woodward is a pop 1 in psa 8(i just bought a 6). I will probably have to do this with the 57T FB set too as I do not see any Checklists popping up.
Jim
