1920 Buffalo Nickel - Error Coin ?

Hello To All ...

Any thoughts for what caused the distinct "lump" under the chin?

Thank You

Definitely a late die state with a die clash earlier in the die's life.
Many Buffalo nickels exhibit a die clash of "E Pluribus Unum" under the chin.
That is what the lump is - but because of the late die state it looks like
a lump rahter than the clashed letters.

    It's just a hiccup.

But really, it looks like a strike thru. You can see some above LIBERTY i think.

Hello ... After reviewing the coin further, the obverse also has a cracked planchet near liberty. Additional image provided.

    Thanks

It's probably a lamination near liberty, i've seen many buffs that have this.

    As mentioned above, it's the
    result of a die clash.

    Fairly common on this series,
    in the teens and twenties.....

The bump is common die clash. The "crack" is the start of delamination which is also somewhat common. Planchet quality was spotty prior to 1923.
