What would you grade this card? Lou Brock

Hello! what would grade this card, 1968 Lou Brock. I noticed there are what look like braces on his teeth when you look at it under a magnifying glass. Can you give any insight?

Probable 6. Nice card though as that card is often found with poor centering.
  • i'll give it an 8

Centering is well within the guidelines of a PSA 8. I'd say it's a sure fire 7, maybe an 8 if it looks as nice as the scan.

  • It looks like an 8. That being said, the '68 issue is the biggest crapshoot when it comes to grading. Those borders hide wear, and I've sent several in (I never send anything in less than an 8) that have come back 7 through 9, and they all looked to be the same grade pre-slab. You need to look at the corners and esges under magnification to see if there's any hidden chipping hiding in those cross-hatch borders.

One corner to me looks like it has a small ding that's why I gave it a 6. Hopefully there is no ding there and it will grade higher. Can't see it possibly getting an 8. All corners appear frayed to me which is typical of storage in a shoebox for 40 years - would mean a 7 at best.

It's hard to tell the corner wear due to the "potato sack" borders, but it looks like a good 8 canidate to me.

I am not good at grading scans, but if it were me buying the card raw I would be thinking 7 and would not be shocked if it was indeed a 6 - really cannot get a grip on those corners based on a scan.

  • I'm thinkin' it's a 7. Possible outside shot of an 8 without any corner wear or 6 with a little corner wear.

I don't think it's trimmed. In any event good luck and we'll wait for you to post the scans when they come back from PSA - hopefully you won't get the "grader of death"

I think that's a great looking card, extremely well centered and the corners look pretty strong from what I can see in the pic. Just from seeing the scan, I think you're looking at an 8 with the possibility of a 9. I highly doubt that upper edge is trimmed or filed, that looks normal to me.

  • it looks to have one noticeably soft corner; cant say it appears trimmed. 6 or 7 tops.
