Is this coin really proof?

Not that I'm questioning ICG, well, I guess I am. I didn't know these were minted in proof. Terrible image.

French jeton

or is this a restrike?

The frost shown on the reverse looks like a proof to me. Of course, the picture leaves a lot to be desired.

Interesting piece, but can't really tell anything from the images...

I dunno. I dunno if anyone could tell from that image.
I also plead a lack of knowledge about jetons.

I do know know I once bought an 1883 shield nickel in an ICG slab, graded MS65, which was very nice. In fact, it looked to be a proof to me. So, I cracked it and sent it PCGS.......and, it was a PROOF.....PF66. image

So, what might that story mean??? . . . . image

You can now pause to reflect. image

Ummm... you should always crack out and resubmit PCGS graded coins? Is that it?

The slab says "Official Jeston - Victories in the Low Countries" and then gives some sort of catalog/reference number I can't read.

I wonder if this was really minted in the 17th Century?

I asked the seller if he could get a better image and if offers a return privelege. Here is his reply:

<< <i>This is the best image I've been able to get with my scanner Ive tried a couple times to get it clearer but it seems to come out the same everytime. I don't believe its a restrike I don't know to much about it . I sent it to ICG to be graded and it took about 2 1/2 months to get it back. I tried to research it but no one seems to know that much about it. Im not sure if its a coin or a metal. sorry I usually dont offer returns , I hope this info helps you alittle. >>

With no return and fuzzy image, I couldn't take a chance.

I have a Louis XIV jeton. Not a proof, though.

My image is also horrible, having been done on a cheap scanner.

Being brass, I believe, mine is much yellower in color.

That ICG piece looks like it could well be a proof, but I have no idea.

Sounds like the seller is a clueless Litesider.

That one of the two companies go it wrong. The question is, which one?
