Just Got Back - 1900 Miles in 2 1/2 Days!

Hi

I don't mean to be the center of attention but wanted to say hi.

My wife's dad died SuperBowl Sunday and was buried in KY yesterday.

My wife flew with her mom and my son and I drove - I even got stopped for speeding for the first time in 17 yrs! He gave me a warning.

We had a family get together Fri nite - this is my wife's family and some of them I hadn't seen in 20 years! Her dad was buried Saturday. Her dad served 30 years in the US Army - retired a Command Sergean Major - served in Vietnam - and retired at Brook Army Medical Center as the Medical Center Command Sergeant Major in 1983.

It was a very humble ceremony - The US Army sent a small color guard and the VFW sent their own ceremonial group. As a 30 year veteran myself - I felt it comforting to have them present.

This truly reminded me how precious life is - and shorter than one would want to really give thought.

Now, let's get back to sports cards! image

    Welcome Back.

Your are right; there is something oddly comforting
about being present at a military funeral vs. attending
    a civilian ceremony.

I saw the same thing around Dallas last nite - I said to my son - that's great - I get stopped for doing 77 in a 65 with no traffic and this guys if doing like 90! I was glad to guy just gave me a warning - I've only had one speeding tick in the last 30 yrs. and it was in 1979.

Then we saw a police car buzz by us - no lights on.

About 2 miles down the road they nailed the guy! We just laughed and moved on.

edit: by the way - thanx for the kind words guys.

  • Our condolences to your family, Mike. Glad you made it back home safe and sound.

Thanks for the reminder to not take what we have for granted...
  • Welcome back, Mike. I was glad to hear about the service. I find that, typically, the treatment -- or lackthereof -- of our country's vets usually turns my stomach.

Good to have you back. image

I want to thank everyone for the kind words.

My prayers are also with those who come here everyday who may be experiencing pain in their life right now.

I know this is not the purpose of this board - but many, like myself, realize how we get to know each other and it's hard to separate ourselves totally from the hobby - for which this board is intended.

    Thanx again
