Good read about "The King and His Court" -- Eddie Feigner

Here's a link to a good story about the late Eddie Feigner, the legendary softball pitcher. It was written by a local columnist, John Canzano, in today's Sunday Oregonian newspaper.

Good read, I didnt know he lived in Tennessee. I always wondered why he didnt at least try to pitch a baseball in the bigs.
    R.I.P. King.

We played against The King numerous times. Never won any games.
However a team from peekskill led by Dickie Cotton did beat the King one year 2-1 (Dickie hit 2 homers) Dickie was a lefty that could throw heat and had all the pitches. late in his career I beat him in the championship game 1-0. It was one of my most memorable games. One year I left my team to play with another and Dickie took my place. because he was so good the league forced him out using a pro clause against him. i was the only board member to vote for him. the reason? he boasted that he got paid to pitch in some obscure tourneys. The real reason? he was too good. After he was thrown out i transferred back to my team.
back to the KING, he could throw strikes blindfolded, between his legs from second base! I am 0 for 2 lifetime against him 1 k and 1 weak foul out. hey I made contact!

  • I saw "The King and His Court" many years ago when I was a kid. The game was played in Royal Oak, MI.
All I can really remember is how great Eddie pitched. He could smoke a fastball in there or put tremendous drop on his pitches. He did pitch some from second base. It seems like the Court was one outfielder, an infielder and Eddie's catcher. That was a long time ago, great thread.

Steve, you're the closest to "royalty" that I've ever been. Neat stories!

    I hadn't heard this before:

<< <i>He threw 104 mph, pitched blindfolded and could throw strikes from second base if he wanted to. There were 930 no-hitters and 10,000 games. But I asked Feigner about his legendary spring training feat in 1967, where he struck out Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Brooks Robinson, Maury Wills, Harmon Killebrew, Roberto Clemente and Pete Rose in succession.

He said: "I struck out Clemente on a between-the-legs pitch, and I got Killebrew with one behind my back. Everyone always forgets those things." >>

If I remember right the Court included Eddie Feigner Jr as the shortstop (and he was good) and Johnny Bateman at catcher (Bateman played in the bigs for a while). Feigner's rise ball was unhittable. Always a great show!
