starting a 1958 topps football set!!

I decided to begin this set today. I had thought about it for quite awhile, a month or so ago I decided to go with '62 topps football instead, but I realized I could just be happy and collect both sets (why not, right?)
who cares if I havent even finished a set, by golly, I might as well just start a couple more!
Anyway I am back in my hometown for the weekend (I go to Mizzou, it's a couple hours away) and my lists are up there, so I didnt have them with me today. So it would have been worthless to try and work on my current sets, so I decided to start this new one. I bought 48 1958's from one of my favorite dealers in nm and nm+ for about $1.50 each, here are a few that I got today:

as you can see I'm building a nice set, but I'm not one thats going to pay x amount of money for some silly low pop psa 8 or 9, I'd rather buy a raw exmt+ or near mint copy of the card if it's that tough in nm/m. Maybe I'm just cheap? Part of it is the fact that I'm in college and that is a cash drain, let me tell you folks that may have gone to college 30 or 40 years ago, well it's pretty expensive these days.

Anyway, the point of this thread was to show off, what I thought was a pretty good deal for a buck or two per card, and I"m also asking if anyone has any for sale or trade in this condition? psa 6 to psa 8 (raw)? I am more interested in corners than centering, 80/20 is ok, even 90/10 if the corners are nm/m.

thanks
John

Those are some nice looking '58's. Nice score on the buy. There's nothing wrong with a solid Ex-Mt or better raw set from an issue you like. I like the set design too. The set contains some fine RC's and some great second year cards of major FB stars too.

I've attempted to build this set in PSA 8 but it's been a dead end for me. The prices for some commons get so out of hand that I get priced out budget wise. I think I have close to 40 PSA 8's graded right now. I doubt if I'll ever complete it but I enjoy tracking down a few cards here and there to add to my slow building set.

Sorry, not trying to steal your thread.

Nice set IMO/ good luck with it. Love that Zeke card and the Lamar McHan card is one of the best looking football cards ever made. The last card seems very tough to find in high grade. Same with the Willie Galimore RC.

I've got some PSA 5 through PSA 7 that I'd like to sell. Nothing too expensive, but I'm concentrating only on high grade 7's and mid grade 8's.

i love the design of the 58's. I started a set when i was working at a card shop back in the early 90s'. still havent gotten a brown yet. but i am most of the way done. condition varies but i like it any way. i dont have plans to have it graded. greg gets to take a look at it this coming weekend.

I like both the 57 and the 58T set.

I think those are nice cards and a good start on the set.

I don't collect either set but wish you luck. I'm sure you'll find a lot of members with dups to sell/trade.

Good luck - I'm looking forward to your posts.

greg want to pm me a list of what you have/prices?

Mike, thanks. I am also a big fan of the 57s, it's my favorite set, I've been working on it forever, here are a couple I picked up this weekend:
