Any New York Knicks Fans Out There?

They have been very exciting this year knocking on the door of a .500 winning percentage. With 31 games left they have won 1 less than they won all last year. Until tonight they were 4-0 in four very exciting OT games. They also had won 18 straight when taking a lead into the 4th quarter. Well tonight in the 4th quarter they blew a 10 point lead against Utah. Utah scored two 3 pointers in a matter of a minute. With seconds left Jamal Crawford attempted a 3 pointer which he missed but he was clearly fouled. The refs ignored it and the game went into OT where they lost by 2 points. In OT there were some calls against the Knicks too. Very frustrating but they were playing on the road but at least they gave 100%. Needless to say Isaiah Thomas was livid and wouldn't even give an interview after the game.

  • I root for the Indians, have done so since 1986 back when I pinned my dreams on Joe Carter and Cory Snyder. The fine young woman in the photo is me ex-coworker and very good friend Christina; she moved to California a few months back, she got tired of the cold and snow of New England. Pic is from this past summer at fenway, the Indians were in town and we work down the street from fenway. I had tix to all four games. $$$ pricey! Hot as hell too, 100+ most of those games; wicked heat wave. Exact opposite now, hasnt been above 32 in over a week.

I take great pleasure when the Sox lose to the tribe lol. Dunno why I dislike them so much, I like their players, and their old timers like Yaz and Doerr and Teddy Ballgame, heck I've even played ball IN Fenway park and laid down on the left feel grass image

    Cheers!
    Enjoy your weekend.
  • Bob, I hate the Red Sox too. I am a Yankee fan. image Never been to Fenway but would like to go some time.

  • I feel the same way, posted this about 6 weeks ago:

In this situation, I agree with those who chastize the NY fan for being spoiled/impatient... I'm not really sure where all the venom comes from towards this team - they are a very young team improving nightly. Do people want to go back to the Layden days, and have an old, slow team with no chance at ever winning a title? Thomas has been there exactly three years (NOT ENOUGH TIME TO COMPLETE THE OVERHAUL THIS TEAM NEEDED) and though the record doesn't show it, like I said there is improvement. What we have -

    1) One of the top 5 centers in the game. Say what you want about Eddy Curry - he JUST turned 24 and he's turning into a monster - he can be so unstoppable at times it's not funny. When he brings it every night (like he has for the last 10 games or so) he goes for 25-30 with 8-10 rebounds. He's getting better at recognizing the double team and hitting the open guy. Last year was a lost season of development for him, one I blame on Larry Brown (more on him later).

    2) Two emerging stars in Frye and Lee. Say what you want about Isiah but the man can draft. Frye has a good inside/outside game and has regained his confidence after last seasons sporadic PT. I can't say enough abot Tenacious Lee. Averaging a double double when he starts, providing spark and 10 boards when he comes off the bench. Best white PF since, well ???? and I'm sure Dolan doesn't mind a guy the fans can feel they relate to to put behinds in seats. That tip-in with .01 to beat the Bobcats was one of the sickest plays I've ever seen.

    3) A decent, young, core. Lee, Frye, Balkman (another great draft pick), Curry, Jeffries, Crawford, Robinson, and Collins all have their primes in front of them. Steph is playing better (and though I don't really like the guy, he is a team key and does some nice things for underpriveleged kids).

    4) No more next-town Brown. This is where the venom should be pointed. Dude sandbagged us last year, turned us into Team Titanic. Won a championship with a great team and his head got too big to fit in the front doors at MSG. He turned this team to crap, running an offense that did not fit these players, butting heads with everyone on the team, and putting out the most ridiculous lineups night in and night out. 25 games under .500, starting Malik Rose and Mo Taylor, not developing the kids, requesting the disastrous jalen Rose and Steve Francis deals, so much more... Why he chose to sabotage the Knicks I don't know, but I'm glad he's gone on to the next 5 teams he'll coach.

This team is destined for failure in the minds of many fans and the snakes (like Peter Vecsey) in the NY media. Isiah gets thrown on the back page of the Post wearing a clown suit, you'd never see Doogie Frank treated that way, despite the Nets poor showing so far. If "fans " aren't watching or going to the Garden, they are missing out on a lot of fun - F last year, these guys don't quit, are resiliant, and can win any game. These three OT wins the last couple of weeks have been a pleasure to watch. They would have lost all of these games in the last couple of years, but no quit - they were down 5 in 2 of the OTs last night, and down 4 in the 2nd OT with 10 seconds to go, against the best team in the East with a still-depleted roster (like when they beat Utah with 8 guys last week).

So we're not going to win a championship this year, or next. This team is better and more fun to watch than it has been in years, and for the first time in a while there seems to be light and the end of the tunnel. Cry about the Curry deal if you want, but I've seen Tyrus Thomas play and we got the better end of this one.. We aren't finishing with the worst record this year, so Chicago won't get the No. 1 pick that will be Greg Oden, and there will be nothing to lament.

Watch a game or 3 or 4 before you write these Knicks off. See how entertaining they are, how they are coming together as a team, how kids are learing to play and win like men. Have fun watching this, and for once have some patience - life isn't always about winning right away. That's why we have the Yankees -

  • and as for last night, I thought the T on Lee was crazy. Would have liked to see Q put up a shot late instead of passing back to Jamal, but they have been deferring to him late all season. Glad to see another fan can see these guys for what they are, instead of griping and calling for Thomas' head. Go Knicks!

Not a Knicks fan, but I tended to root for them since the Bernard King days thru the Van Gundy days. Since then, I can't stand to watch the Isiah Thomas train wreck.

What sucks about the Knicks improving is that they will not be firing Isiah Thomas anytime soon, which is what the Knicks really need.

I still hold reservations about curry despite his good year. He still doesnt rebound the ball well and blocks absolutely nothing. Decent back to the basket defender, but overall average, if not subpar, defender. With his size, he should be pulling down at least 2 more boards a game...not to mention blocking 1 or 2 more blocks per game. Ill give him credit...good offensive player and the knicks arent looking that bad anymore with that trade.

I agree 100% that Curry needs to become more aggressive on the boards, and on D overall. If Larry Brown hadn't decided to tank last season, I think it would have been a great situation for him to learn and improve. Instead it turned into a lost year of development. With the lack of quality 5s in the NBA, I still think he ranks right up there. Shaq and Yao are better, and Howard is really becoming a monster, but who else would anyone want to play center over Eddy? It's tough for someone to not be who they are, and EC seems like a genuinely good guy. If he can just get mean and get mad at somebody every night, I think the rebounds and blocks will pick up.

  • The Knicks keep on keeping on

    Knicks 107 Lakers 106.

Eddy Curry is a beast. 2nd year David Lee is turning out to be quite the player....up there in league leading rebounds.

  • Anyone see Francis' 3 point shot at the buzzer last night against the Wizards? If the season ended now the Knicks would make the playoffs as the #8 seed in the East.

If they make the playoffs I think they could do some serious damage to other teams.

  • I think the Heat, Pistons, Raptors, Bulls, and Cavs would all have no problem with the Knicks.

  • I saw today Isiah will be back next year - good. The Knicks have improved their winning % every month and have played over .500 since the 5-11 start. Winning now with all the injuries has been huge - 3/5 of the starting lineup out and they keep plugging along. As for those powerful teams that some basketball "experts" think will have "no problem" with the Knicks, - the Knicks are 6-6 against them. Let's get to the playoffs, then see what happens...
  • Ruben Patterson banks a 3-pointer to give Milwaukee a 102-99 lead with 0.9 seconds left. Never fear Eddy Curry then shoots his first 3-point shot of the season and knocks it down with a swish with no time on the clock. The Knicks go on to win the game 118-113 in OT. Curry has a career high of 42 points and Nate Robinson has a career high of 34 points combining for 76 of the Knicks 118 points.

    Curry, Knicks Stun Bucks

Last week they lost to the Dallas Mavericks (most wins in the NBA) by 2 points and almost pulled out a victory. Time is running out for the injury riddled Knicks but oh have they been exciting this year. Say what you want but with Curry, a healthy Lee, Robinson, and Balkman they had a young sub 24 year old nucleus for other teams to deal with for years to come.

Say what you want, but their supposed " young talent " is grossly overrated by people desperate for a winning team. This cast will take them absolutely nowhere. Not this year, not next, not in five years.

This year will be a 10-12 win improvement, and hopefully next year will too. Rome wasn't built in a day, and these guys haven't been good for a long time. Last night they won with Collins and Robinson and no other guards. 5 guys - Curry, Balkman, Jefferies, and the guards played nearly the whole game, fought back from multiple defecits, and didn't quit late. I don't mind watching a team grow and come together, and I really think these guys make the playoffs next year.
  • It was also Curry's only 3-point shot of the year and only the 2nd of his career. He made them both so he is shooting a perfect 100% for his young career. image

I was a Knicks fan as a kid, Bradely, Frazier, Reed, Lucas, Dave D, Phil Jackson, Stallworth, the Pearl that was fun.

Can't be a fan of a team coached by Isiah Thomas, maybe when he goes I can come back.

    Peace

  • The Knick championships in the late 60's, early 70's were great and I cherish those days. I am not crazy about Isiah Thomas either but I don't let that get in the way of rooting for a very exciting Knicks team.

This is very bad. Because the team "improved" (hell, not many coaches could NOT improve on last year), the Knicks are stuck with the imcompetent Isiah for the forseeable future. The Knicks will suck until the Dolans sell the team to an owner who will hire a competent management team.

Another steller performance against the Bulls.

Id really like to know what games some people are watching...this is an exciting team ?

The only thing exciting about this bunch of zero's is the excitement other teams must feel knowing they are playing them.

2-10 the last 12 games. Great way for a team trying to get into the playoffs to play.

For all those living in a bubble, this is not an exciting team with alot of good young talent who will compete for anything this year, next, or in 5 years.

Reed, Frazier, DeBusschere, Monroe, and Bradley should ask that their banners be removed from the Garden rafters until they put a respectable team on the court.

  • So let's hear the big solution. The team was better off during the Layden era? - slow, unatheletic and plodding, might have won 40 games with the right coach, was a travesty to watch. Picking the Bulls game as an example of the Knicks season is ridiculous. Playing B2B, everyone is hurt (once again Collins and Robinson playing a ton of minutes) in a game that is, for all intents and purpose, meaningless for this team(and wasn't for Chicago). Let me see any other team in the NBA compete night in and night out with 3/5 of its starting rotation plus the #1 guy off the bench out. Young and improving, and so much better to watch than a few years ago it's not even funny.

So again, what's the solution. You want to blow up the team, get rid of everybody and start from scratch? Good luck with the cap the way it is (which has been that way for years, well before Isiah took over) and if the players are so horrible, who wants them, right? Is someone else going to come and put a winner on the court next year? Should they build around a nucleus of young, drafted talent? Oh wait, they have that nucleus - (Frye, Lee, Balkmann, Curry (though not drafted by us), Robinson, Collins, etc).

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Rome wasn't built in a day - Isiah had crap to work with, Brown tanked the team last year (I hate Larry Brown) and they are improving. I usually agree with you Bri, but I think you are off base on this team. It's not like Isiah had a championship team he ruined - how long has it been since the Knicks brought home the title? image
  • bri2327bri2327 Posts: 3,178 ✭✭
Never did I blame Isiah for any of this.

That doenst mean I think he is any good, but I certainly dont blame him for the state of the team as it is now.

If I knew the solution I wouldnt be here typing it, I would be an NBA GM. What I do know is that the team, though improved, is not a team that is going anywhere. As assembled, young or not they do not have anywhere close to what it takes to go far.

Talent on this team has been drastically overrated by folks eager to see a winner. Of course they have improved over last year. Could it possibly, even mathematically, have gotten any worse ?

By the time NY sees a legitimate playoff threat take the court in the garden 90% or better of the current roster will be absent.

Rome, though not built in a day, was built by superior personel. This current roster in no ways resembles the early days of the Roman or any other future empire.

Yeah, 12 games ago was about when Dolan extended Isiah's contract. Face it -- Isiah SUCKS and must be kicked out of basketball before he does any more damage. He destroyed an entire league (CBA) for crying out loud.

Maybe a deeper problem on this team than Knick fans want to admit. Doesn't sound like there is much leadership and its a bunch of highly overpaid crybabies. The Bulls only score 20 points in the 4th quarter and none in the last minute 47 seconds and they want to cry about them running up the score on them. They can't score 70 points in a game and all they want to do is whine and point fingers. Good luck Knick fans. image
