Anyone watching the NFL Pro Bowl?

stevekstevek Posts: 29,033 ✭✭✭✭✭
Why this thing is even played is beyond me. Of course it's about the money but there is still risk of injury from players who are probably a bit out of shape. The NFL "Pro Bowl" should just be some kind of awards ceremony and forget about this waste-of-time of a game.

I've got a large chunk on the NFC to cover! image

  • yeah i agree...and i tell ya i was terrified when Chad went down..that would kill us if Johnson got hurt...i also didnt like to see Drew go down..that was a nasty looking hit and that is always a scarey thing..especially when it happens to such a great guy!

  • Why are Shawn Payton and Bill "Never Crack a Smile" Belichek coaching? Their teams did not make the Super Bowl?

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

The coaches who lose the conference championship games get to go. The SB coaches wouldn't have enough time to prepare.

I seem to recall that years ago the players wore their own helmets AND uniforms, but I can't be sure. Does anyone know if the unis were different years back (70s-80s)?

Hope Tony Romo enjoys this Pro Bowl. He looked pathetic out there. I predict it will be his last. I don't think he'll even be in the league three years from now. Sure glad he's a Cowboy. HA! HA!

I believe you're right - of course each NFC or AFC team wore the home or road jersey.

I'd like to see the NFC win the game - with stnkin' Romo in there we've got little chance of coming back.

I forgot it was even on, coming a week after the super bowl it will always be anticlimatic. It gets next to no news coverage leading
up to it since hardly anybody cares. The players get a nice all expenses paid vacation to Hawaii out of it so it is worth playing in as
long as they don't suffer a serious injury.

Worth checking out the highlights to see the hit Sean Taylor put on the Bills punter who was running a fake punt...ouch!

Now tied up - looks like I gave Romo the reverse jinx. LOL

    You got that right!

Pro basketball to me has become a pathetic bore. With every dunk the announcers go wild with their calls...that to me has gotten very old. March Madness is okay and I'll watch the final games of that - that's good entertainment. And pro hockey...well it's hockey...it's a good sport and fun to watch live at the arena, but to me it's boring on TV. But certainly everyone has their favorite sports and I have mine. Oh well...baseball season right around the corner - Yes!
  • The heck with TV sports, I just want to get my bike out fo the shed and hit the road. Got to wait a few more months for that. image

If you watched the game Belichek actually was having a lot of fun with the game, going for it on 4th down, joking and smoking with Shannon Sharpe on the sidelines. Belichek belongs coaching that game more than half of the players who made the Pro-Bowl
  • Pro Bowl appearances gives points which help get hall of fame elections. When you become a hall of famer your stock increases tremendously.

It is also pretty cool to be honored by your colleagues. Plus to get a free trip to Hawaii for a pretty well paid game, sounds like a win-win. I recently received a “Harvey Award" (a meteorite award from some of my colleagues) and I felt quite honored.

It has a meteorite on top, but it didn’t come with a trip to Hawaii….darn it.

Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • Sean Taylor hit on Brian Moorman

I don't ever remember seeing a hit like that (or any hitting whatsoever) in a pro bowl
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

    Agreed.
  • With the new uniforms and the draft system, the Pro Bowl will have better ratings than the Super Bowl.

The new jerseys are fantastic, and I love the drafting system. MLB could learn something from this.

That being said, I'm still not going to watch.

If I didn't know they were Pro Bowl unis, would have assumed MIA was playing the Oregon Ducks.

The draft system isn't unique, the NHL started it a couple years ago.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
