PSA- Yes or No?

Hi, first off I didn't know where to post this topic so I hope I am ok in the general board. I have a 2004 Bowman Chrome RED REFRACTOR Rookie Card (Certified Autograph Issued) Eli Manning signed card, machine stamped # 7/10. The card came out as a "box topper" from 2004, this card came and still is in a Topps Uncirculated case. Never opened.

The big question I have is you think I should chance it and send it to PSA for grading? Or leave it alone in the Topps case it came in. The card is very sharp and I think it would come back PSA 10 due to the fact that no one has touched it. Also, would PSA only grade the auto or just the card? Beckett does both I believe, please tell me your thoughts.

PLEASE SEE THE SCANS FOR MORE DETAIL OF THE CARD.

    I'd leave it in there.

Wow thanks! Wish someone could teach me that!
  • Leave it in, the fact that it is a sealed holder means it is meant to stay like that!

    Thanks for the info. =P

I know there was a reason for keeping it in the case but I also thought people liked to buy graded cards more. So I figured maybe go for it but I guess I'll leave it in.

First off, I dont like those cases very much. Cards can and do bounce around in those and the croners will be damaged. I have plenty of that type with damaged corners.

Your's looks pretty good. If its not being moved around alot its fine in the case but still for long term storage I would at least transfer it to a 1 screw with corner notches.

As far as grading goes, I would hold off and see if Eli improves next year. If he does than I would consider getting it slabbed.

I would sell it as it is.

If it came back with an unexpected low grade,
    you could/would lose money.

  • Does PSA notate on the flip that it's a unreleased thing-a-ma-bob? If not, it'll just be another example of that card graded and will lose the appeal of the uncirculated issue. I'd leave it as is. Providing a scan like that will allow the potential sellers to see the card accurately and then they can decide if they want to submit it or not. If you do it, you're essentially eliminating a portion of prospective bidders (ie. the uncirculated market).

    Looks like a PSA 9.

I would leave it as is. That was the way it was issued, so I think taking it out of the package only hurts the value.

Besides, wouldn't you want to be the one guy out of ten that left his in the original packaging?

    Another good point.

  • i would also say to leave it in...also it may be a little safer to wait to sell it..if Eli turns it around and plays well next season it would sell for a great deal more..IMO..

  • Leave it in the case. There's scuffing on the back over the QB and just a tad OC
L/R on the front. Probably a 9 at best.
  • Agree, sell it as is. You just never know how much scuffing may be on the card until it's out of the case. Could easily drop it to a 9. It had to be handled some. Eli signed it and someone placed it into the case.

Please also keep in mine the case does have a few marks on it so whatever you see might not be on the card.

I was just about to point that out.

If you are looking to sell, leave it as is. You never know with PSA and 10's, the card could end up an 8! I don't collect much modern, but I think that the value is in the autos and low #ed cards and no in a PSA 10. If the card looks mint, people are willing to pay mint money for it. I think much of that is due to the better printing of these days that a vast majority of cards come out of the pack in MINT condition.

Definitely not a 10 with the left/right centering. I say leave it in the case and sell now if you want to. The Giants are a good 2-3 years away from being decent (if they make the right moves), and Eli has proven he can't play well unless the team around him is good and losing Tiki certainly doesn't help matters. Eli looked lost this year and although he'll probably show improvement next year, I don't see him having a huge impact.

Long as he makes the playoffs next year, I'd be happy. Lets not forgot Peyton is in NFL for 9 years, Eli started in '04. In my book hes still a rookie, maybe his brother can give him pointers.
