Ugly guy, cool coin!

Just got this 1796 Order of Malta 2-scudi piece (now in a PCGS VF30 holder) from forum member Coinmickey today. (Bought it off the Weekly Swap not long ago.)

Emmanuel De Rohan was certainly a ferrety-looking fellow, if his portrait is to be believed! Other elements of the engraving seem a bit crude, too, but they just add character to an already interesting piece. At the price, I couldn't pass up such a fascinating piece of large 18th century silver.

Thanks, Coinmickey! You get the coveted

He sort of looks like a Who from the Grinch
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

Goober, he does look kinda "grinchy", now that you mention it. I thought that was a familiar look! image

A Doctor Seuss character on an 18th century coin... who'd've thunk it?

Here's a real charmer; Friedrich Wilhelm "The Great Elector" of Brandenburg. 18 Groschen of 1657 (sorry, no reverse pic)

Here he is again on a 1/3 Thaler of 1668, with doubling to accent an already huge snout.

Wow, that second one is impressive. He's as ugly as Leopold Hogmouth, maybe even uglier! image

Again, though... ugly guy, cool coins! image
