Anybody know what these vintage cards are?

New subscriber needing some help. Ran into a guy today who has 4 "packs" of what appear to be cards from the 40s to 50s...no idea when. These "packs" are more like envelope/boxes that unfold in the back. The boxes he has are either red or green with a closeup picture of a player on front centered. ON the bottem of the front of the box is a band of yellow or cream with block letters that match the color of the pack, the top line saying "SPORT STAR" and the bottom line says "SUSPECTS" I think. Verticle writing down both sides of picture, but don't know what it says. ON top of the picure in white letters says "Collectors & Traders". The boxes appear to be numbered 1-4. Each box has ten cards inside, players picture with name on card, natural curved corners.
There is no manufacturer or date on any of the cards or packs. Any idea what these are and what they could be worth? I opened one box and the cards are in great shape. Thanks in advance.
