Your Biggest Loss On An eBay Auction.....

What Was Your Most Biggest Loss On An eBay Auction??

For me a have a few:

I was selling a huge piano for a friend on eBay which was worth around $1000.....it sold for $1.75 with 2 bids

I had an Alex Rodriguez patch card with 3/4 of the Rangers mini logo on the tag....this is though the era of fake patch cards so I don't believe everyone thought it was real and it sold for $12. If I sold it 5 years ago I would've made atleast $100 for it

61 card lot of ONLY serial number cards....worth a little over $300....sold for $12.50

This is not my biggest loss, but I once sold a 1934 CU $20 bill for $13.75 including shipping.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Kudos to you for honoring the final bid price, but that is one hell of a kick in the pants...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

I had a couple of small hits when I first starting selling on ebay, but have learned since that it's worth the extra fee on the listing charge to either post a higher starting price or add a reserve.

Bunker, hopefully you can make up for it on volume!

I only sell cards when I get an upgrade, and need to at least cover what I have into it. So I only sell by fixed price. I might leave some money on the table, but I never take a loss.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Was the serial numbered lot recent? I think that is the one I had one on my watchlist. I thought I would be home before the auction ended and didn't make it. I would have went quite a bit higher, sorry.

  • Oh boy. This is going to be painful.

Right around the time I joined these board I sold essentially my entire football RC collection in a lot. Looking back, I would've easily spent the coin to have many of these cards graded and then sold individually. Alas, hindsight ....

The lot consisted of the following (they were all raw and the grades I will assign them will be bottom-line conservative):

    1976 Walter Payton RC Ex-Mt
    1978 Tony Dorsett RC NrMt
    1981 Joe Montana RC Ex-Mt
    1983 Marcus Allen RC Mint
    1983 Marcus Allen Sticker Mint
1996 Topps Chrome Marvin Harrison RC Mint
1996 Topps Chrome Keyshawn Johnson RC Mint
1996 Topps Chrome Refractor Eric Moulds RC Mint

The lot consisted of numerous other cards, all genuine RCs, from the 90s including Edgerrin James, Donovan McNabb, Daunte Culpepper and many, many others.

Lot sold for almost $150. The real kick in the nuts was the feedback I got from the buyer ... "THE BEST LOT I'VE EVER BOUGHT ON EBAY"

If "if's" and "but's" were candy and nuts we'd all have a great Christmas. image

Edited to add: All of the above mentioned cards had a very good shot at receiving the next higher grade and, no, I'm not one of those people who tosses out "this shoulda been" grades. It hurts.
