opinions needed

this is a post i have on the set registry board but some of you might not make it over there much.

"I know this sounds strange but a 1991 Stadium Club Favre, that is labeled as a Super Bowl card was won last night.

The seller states he doesnt think the card is a super bowl version as he cant find the logo. He also wont give a refund if it has been determined that the card was a mechanical error. Sounds like he thinks it is.

linky

So this brings up the question. Is it possible to have the card flagged so that someone cant add it to the master set without verification of the ture status of the card. I guess I could add it to my set and not validate the set, which would block the card from being entered but I dont want to do that.

Would love to hear what others think."

I would email Gayle in the set registry dept. Tell her the situation and maybe they could block the cert from being added or just figure out what to do. That would be bad for someone to have that in their set and it not be a true sb card.

Is the winner doing the master set?

If its not a true sb card I wonder how that error could have been made?
  • you mayt have to send a scan, you might be entitled to a refund if you indeed bought a "misgraded" card. Makes me wish I bought that "Honus (heinie) Wagner"
  • I was stuck in the same situation with a similar card from PSA. In my case, it was a 1991 SC Super Bowl XXVI PSA 10 card that was mislabeled. It was kinda a bid deal for me, since it was about a 13-14x multiplier over the standard (base) 1991 Stadium Club PSA 10 Favre.

I was lucky enough that the seller took the card back. In fact, the card was available on eBay again later (from a different seller) for half of what I "paid" for it. I also helped that buyer get out from under that card.

Currently, the card was removed from the PSA pop reports. It was good to see that PSA straightened that card out. I don't know the course that card took. I don't know if it made its way back to PSA to get corrected or what happened.

I do find it curious that the mistake has happened more than once with PSA. Its worrisome to say the least. For this to happen once I can maybe understand. For it to happen twice, in my opinion, is a bad sign. If a submitter just throws something on the form, and the grader takes it at face value without verifying what the card really is, then there is a big problem. If the grader doesn't know what it is, then they should ask someone who does.

The graders are human like you and me. I am not perfect. I know PSA can't always be perfect. I just hope PSA can do something about this card, and help prevent this from happening again.
