opinions needed on whether a card can be blocked from being added to a set

I know this sounds strange but a 1991 Stadium Club Favre, that is labeled as a Super Bowl card was won last night.

The seller states he doesnt think the card is a super bowl version as he cant find the logo. He also wont give a refund if it has been determined that the card was a mechanical error. Sounds like he thinks it is.

linky

So this brings up the question. Is it possible to have the card flagged so that someone cant add it to the master set without verification of the ture status of the card. I guess I could add it to my set and not validate the set, which would block the card from being entered but I dont want to do that.

Would love to hear what others think.

  • The seller doesn't own the card now. I think you can hope that the new owner card read, as the seller pretty much does state it is not the Super Bowl version.

"I guess I could add it to my set and not validate the set..."

Unless you are buyer, that would seem a worst action then the seller. I have purchased mechanical errors on ebay before....but it is hard for me to blame the seller. This is afterall a PSA error.

To answer your question: I doubt it. I suppose you could contact BJ, but I don't think they'll bar a card from being entered because there is a suspicion that it is mislabeled.

Sidenote: It is infuriating to see PSA mislabel modern oddball football again and again and again. There was a PSA 10 of this very card that a board member here won for over $2000 that turned out to be the base card. They seem to be unable to tell the corrected cards from the errors in 1989 Score. I can't get them to label some parallels correctly even after returning for reholder twice. YES it's complicated these days, but we're paying them good money to properly identify, authenticate, grade, and encapsulate our cards. Dudes in their mother's basements can discern between versions. This is a multi-million dollar company, they have no excuse to not get it right.

I have no plans on adding it to my set. I just dont like the fact that someone can add a card that isnt what its labeled as being.

The real question is whether PSA would buy the card from the buyer, like they do when if a card is over graded.

I have never heard of the Super Bowl card. Does anyone have a scan of what it should look like. ALso, anyone know the print run or what a real 9 would bring?

I may have to add this card to my watch for list.

this is an embossed logo only, no foil. look in the upper right corner. at the man wearing the fidora, almost like the guys near the grassy knoll. its not easy to see in that scan but you can tell its there. with the one that just closed you cant see it at all.

PSA will not buy it back. I ran into this problem recently with a common P2 pin mislabeled as being a HOFer (I bought it without benefit of a picture).

In many of these cases, it is the seller's fault. When the error is apparent, I highly doubt that any experienced seller doesn't know it.
