Pricing difference in SMR??

I was looking through my old SMR and notice something. I noticed that the 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson in PSA was $150 or so, but his PSA 10 was listed at $6,500. Does anyone know what the biggest percent jump between say a PSA 9 and a PSA 10 in SMR for modern cards or for PSA 8 to a PSA 9 for vintage??

It's always going to be the PSA 10 rookies of major stars.

Certain players/collectors really throw off the curve. Dmitri Young, for instance, really put the PSA 10 market out of whack for a long time for modern rookies in PSA 10. He has set price records on nearly every post-war major baseball rookie card ever to grade PSA 10.

    Six+ figures for Clemente rookie.
Over $7K for Gossage OPC rookie in PSA 10 (very recent)
    etc.

You can call it SMR -- but it is so think up there, that you are having one/two people throwing off the whole "value" equation.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Are you talking about what prices people are paying for or what prices are in SMR?? I am just talking pricing in SMR. Wondering what cards have the biggest price difference between two grades. The Henderson was one of the biggest ones that I have noticed.
  • The SMR pricing is based in part on previous sales. So if you have a rare PSA 10 with a population of 2, the SMR pricing is going to be heavily based on a previous sale, perhaps the only one to have sold within the past year. In many ways, PSA 10 examples of vintage cards are priceless, because with PSA 9 you can pass up on a card and find another one rather easily. But with a gem mint card, it's now or never and it's really however much scratch someone is willing to shell out for it. I'm sure you'll find more than a $6K difference between a 9 and a 10 '52 Mantle. Or a Pafko, if one exists.

I was wondering though on a percent different not price difference.
  • Okay, what about Ozzie Smith RC? I don't have access to the SMR but I bet a PSA Ozzie is through the roof compared to an 8 or a 9.
