Totally depressed that one coin costs more than the whole set!

I just did a "what if" and found out that my current set of 1959 - present lincoln cents will only be complete if I find a 1969-S DDO that costs.... are you ready... three times what I already have invested in the entire set! For one coin! Somebody please explain to me why this is so much fun? I am an addict. I will mortgage my house for a penny. I'm now depressed.

I have to agree here. The 1969 DDO is impossible to find and very pricey. I would just complete the basic and go from there.
  • Missing a coin from a (registry) set isn't the end of the world. I think only one registered set has it and Mr Close is of course very well off financially. Collect what you like and forget what pcgs says you should collect. For me I don't collect varieties but I do collect the small and large dates as I consider them to be major design changes and part of a basic set. (Every album and folder published includes them, yet pcgs doesn't even grade them!).

Stewart, if you had to dispose of all your lincoln cents and keep just one, that would be the one you would keep right?

And people say that the SVDB and 55 double die are the keys to the series....yeah right. Not many people (except for some of us lincoln collectors around here) realize JUST how rare your coin is. For those of who have not seen it:

    here's the link to Stewart's 69-S DDO

IMO, If your going to have the 1969 S DDO as part of the set than why not add the 1958 DDO along with it. Both coins are virtually unobtainable, and regardless if they add or delete them, Stewart will still be the King.
