What to do with cards PSA says are trimmed?

So I had a 75 Topps Brett rookie and an 83 Topps Gwynn rookie that were in GEM and BCCG holders, respectively. During the recent $5 special, I broke them out of their slabs and submitted them to PSA - and they came back as "Evidince of Trimming". The way I see it I have 2 options:

1) Throw them away to get them out of "circulation" so no one could potentially sell them as non-trimmed cards at a future date.

2) Sell them on eBay as trimmed to someone that may not care as they are very presentable copies to the naked eye.

I'm leaning towards option #1. Thoughts?

Write "TRIMMED" on the back in sharpie if you believe they are actually trimmed. If you think they are not trimmed, then resubmit them. If the Brett came out of a BCCG holder, I would be more inclined to think that is was sheet cut.

I would use them as "set" fillers, but if I wasn't collecting the set, I'd probably toss them aside as novelty items. I've had a few that came out of a GEM holder that was clearly trimmed upon examination. These wind up as decorations on the wall somewhere. I would never release them on the market again.

Have you examined the cards thoroughly yourself? If you they look OK and PSA was just being overly cautious, I'd send them in again or send them to BGS for a second opinion. Believe it or not, I've had vintage hockey that was rejected by BGS/BVG as trimmed, but graded just fine when I sent them to PSA.

That gives me another option. Perhaps if I could somehow harness my artistic abilities I could make some sort of modern art out of them.

After I got it back from PSA, I looked at the Brett again with a loupe and I guess I can see it. The Gwynn, on the other hand, looks fine to me but probably wouldn't get any better than an 8 so it's probably not worth it.
  • Well, to be honest some collectors(myself included) don't mind something like that in there collection. I don't sell, I buy. See, I don't have a Brett rookie, and I have multiples of Tony Gwynn. If one of my Gwynns came back as trimmed, I probably use it in a shadow box or something for my den or office. Hell get Gwynn to sign it and tell your buddies it's a "cut auto".
