Anyone here do Desert Storm cards (1991)?
Anyone remember back when these were a really big thing? I know Topps and ProSet(?) did Desert Storm cards. As for me, I just have the Topps, but it is all three series (you hardly ever see sets with all three series; usually just the first one or two) w/ all the stickers.
And does anyone here do the 1991 Topps Desert Shield cards? For those of you who don't know about those, they were just like the standard issue 1991 Topps cards but with a special Desert Shield gold foil stamped logo. These are quite rare/expensive because they were only available to those serving in the Gulf War at that time and needless to say, not many copies survived that harsh desert climate, not to mention very few there were probably into cards.

There are many collectors around here for the Desert Shield cards though.

That's a shame. Those cards are quite educational.

Yeah, they are actually popular so the demand side is there. It's just the supply side that got way out of control. 1991 was probably the worst year ever for card over production.

Which would explain why nearly all major sets that year, even though they're now over 15 years old, can be had for about $5. While I don't blame the 1991 Fleer set (booooooooring) being that cheap, the 1991 Score set is quite a nice one for the price; bold colorful design, sweet subset designs, and a huge 893 card set.

I think I remember seeing an in-depth SMR article about that set. Rumor has it PSA still uses it as reference source.
I have about 3000+ Desert Shield Cards. I have 1 complete set as well as 2 incomplete sets. I recently purchase a local attorneys estate and these were included. I would love to sell them but I have no idea so to best why to get highest dollar for them all. Any suggestions?
Also I believe I have a few of the items you are looking for such as the Topps traded sets and the Score update. Just let me know and I can get you come prices.
So if some out there is looking for anything football, baseball, or basketball between 1991 and 1999 I probably have it. So just ask.
Thanks

It was shortly after that that I got away from card collecting..........there were too many companies flooding the market, inserts and purposely short printed "star" cards were becoming the primary reasons anyone collected. A friend and I would set up a local show on weekends and it got to the point that someone would come up and buy 5 packs, head to the closest trash can, open the cards, scan thru them, pull out any inserts or superstar cards and just trash the rest. I quit collecting entirely in 97......pack prices were getting crazy, and most of the shows I went too, none of the dealers would swap or trade for anything..........they all wanted to pay less than the low side of Beckett if you were selling, and wanted to charge way over the high side if they were buying(which was rare).
<< <i>Was cleaning the garage yesterday after reading this thread and found a almost full case of Enduring Freedom wax. >>
I have that set too! I wonder if Topps did an Operation Iraqi Freedom set?

<< <i>There are a lot of fake Desert Shield cards. If the tree does not lean and is not embossed, be wary. I agree most of the limited production did not make it overseas, but I would not blame dealers. Topps turned these over to the military. It was their supply chain people that diverted them to the hobby dealers >>
Do you have anything to back that up or is this specuation?
