Another newbie!!

Hi everyone! I have finally decided to register on the message boards after reading the various threads and posts for quite some time. As a buyer and seller of vintage cards,I have always considered myself fairly knowledgable when it comes to cards. But I have learned a ton about this great hobby from a lot of you guys(and gals) on this board!! I buy and sell mostly vintage baseball now, although my specialty has always been hockey cards. I am in the process of putting together a 1962-63 Parkhurst set in 7 NM shape for my own personal collection. I had to break down and register to this forum, especially since none of my friends share my passion for those precious trinkets of cardboard that we all love so much! Anyway,I look forward to posting a great deal on this board! Thanks for reading!!

  • Thanks for the welcome greetings, guys!! It's great to be here!! If any of the board members here have built,or are in the process of building,a 62-63 Parkie hockey set,I'd love to get some feedback and thoughts on the set. Just curious as to which cards from the set have been the most difficult for collectors to track down? And also,if any of you that have the set feel that the set should be considered complete sans checklist card and game card? Thanks!!

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
  • Welcome!
  • Damn,I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy from all these people on the board leaving me greetings! Thanks again! @Stone: Yes,I'm a huge fan of the Splendid Splinter!! I live in the Boston area,so I grew up listening to my dad tell me how great the national pasttime used to be,when Williams and Mantle and Mays took center stage, and it wasn't about salaries and endorsements!! I don't follow current sporting events as closely as I once did. I seem to revel in learning about the illustrious history of all my favorite sports more so than anything else! I will soon post some scans of some 1962-63 Parkies that I will be acquiring for my set. Peace!!

P.S. These are the old PSA holders (yikes!), and the newer slabs for these smaller tobbaco cards? ...the cards fit just great!

What the heck! Just a heads-up! Here's an example of the newer PSA holder for these smaller cards:

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
