Posted at the suggestion of Regulated - a subtopic to the thread posted by Michigan about a news report of the recovery of a stolen coin collection($16,000+) which included gold bullion(Kruggerands) sold by the former Tower Coin & Stamp Exchange of Rochester, N.Y. George Bauer was the founder of the business in 1880, which when operated by his great grandson John was known as Tower.

Thank you for posting those - I've always loved his storecards; when I worked for Richard Nachbar in Buffalo we would get one of them once in while. I think we got a silver one once, which I understand is a real prize.

The image on the left is silver plated. I don't believe any of these were ever all silver, unless a few were struck for special customers or family. The George Bauer R.N.A. president's medal is the real prize. They're far more difficult to locate than the above.

I was told that there were a handful of silver pieces made and saw one that I believed to be silver - it would be interesting to find someone that knows all the facts.

    Neat.
  • Just joined Col. Univ., and started searching George Bauer store cards. I have one that I picked up in a relatively significant Tokens and Medals collection. It's stamped "sterling" on reverse below A.N.S ~ R.N.A. Haven't figured out how to upload it to a post.
    Weighs - 19.8 gm
    Any thoughts?

You might be blocked from uploading photos for a day or two, since you have a new account.
An alternative in the meantime is to upload to a 3rd party site like imgur.com and post a link to that.
