An observation

The "large photo in the profile" trend seems to be growing slowly on this message board. I can't say that it's a trend I'm really all that excited about. Anyone else agree or disagree? It makes it harder to read a thread, I think.

The grader of death is finally exposed. Thanks!
  • I agree. It seems that there are those whose images have been creeping up again.

EagleEyeKid, I think your image is a little over the limit as well. Yours is quite large and 67K, and the max suggested is 200 x 400 and no larger than 20k.

I agree that those large images make threads harder to read and slower to download.

lawnmowerman, even your new image is larger in all 3 ways. image

Maybe it would be best to include links to a web page with the images, instead of including them in the actual signature?
  • They don't bother me at all. I've never had any problems downloading the pages and that includes when I log on from my cell phone. I didn't even know people still used dial-up modems.

  • Arthur,

You log in from your cell phone?

    It's not dedication, it's obsession.
I spent an hour trying to find a internet cafe in Livingston, Zambia, just to read the board. Pure sickness.

  • Tom,

I spend 2-4 hours a day in traffic and 12 hours a day in the office/on set. You better believe I invested the extra $20 to get the extras. image

PS. And yes, it is an obsession. image

Arthur - are you in the movie/tv business?

I understand everyone's complaints about the sig line pictures (I've already reduced mine), but I kinda liked seeing people's different pictures in all their glory too. I feel like I've gotten to know people by their pictures as much as I have their posts. I can't tell you how often I think of that one guy with Condoleeza Rice's head on a dog's body. My favorite though has to be Perkdog's picture. Oh well, I guess the pictures will still be there, they'll just be smaller.
  • Von, you're telling me. I miss both Dunkin Donuts and the location of your sig image image

I just can't bring myself to spend more than $2 on a cup of coffee so it's no Starbucks for me. Now I just need to stop drinking all those Red Bulls. image

I really don't mind - I can only think of one that's a bit long.

I have cable and there's really no problem with download.

But, I think if people with slower systems are having trouble - we should try to help them - don't ya think?

  • I kind of like the large profile images... people show off some interesting cards there. Besides, most of the best threads are PACKED with scans of cards.

And I have yet to see a signature line on PSA's forum that's close to the size and flourish that some of the people on the Beckett forums put into theirs.

Oh well... I slashed mine in half for the sake of the folks still surfing dial-up on five-year-old machines.
Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

I hope I haven't upset anyone by starting this thread. I never use dial-up, but I don't really care to see the same images posted time after time. Yeah, the mail call thread has a ton of pictures, but they're all different. That's why it's my favorite thread. I don't think anyone wants to see my 1987 Fleer Will Clark card every time I post a comment, even if it is a PSA 8. I like our avatar pictures because they let us see at a glance who is posting while also giving each of us a chance to show off a little bit of our personality.

Again, I'm sorry if I've upset anyone. That really wasn't my goal.
