My first eBay scam...

SD Card for my camera. The seller had *tons* of feedback, if not a great percentage. I've been waiting for the item, and noticed today that the seller is NARU'd. I paid with PayPal, so I'll probably get my money back, but it's a bummer.

Edited to say: The seller hasn't even accepted the PayPal payment yet, so I can cancel it. Dumb question: should I cancel it? What if he actually plans on shipping the item? I guess I'm crazy and I should cancel now, right? I assume a NARU'd seller can't neg me, right?

    If you can cancel the payment (someone else will have to verify that question)--I'd suggest doing it immediately.

    The seller cannot leave you feedback if he has been NARU'ed.

    I also had bought an item from a seller who had been NARU'ed within a week of my Paypal payment. He also had great feedback, but I never got the item. I filed a paypal claim--won the case, but got zero money back because the seller had emptied his account.
    I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

    If the buyer can't or has not excepted your payment ,its real simple. Pull up your paypal history. Select money sent. It should be easy to find. There should be the word " cancil " in the next step column. Click on that and you should be on your way.

    I rarely bid on any one with a feedback below 99.7 %. These people have show their basic buisness principals either way. Good luck!!

    Lots of people get NARU temporarily when the credit card expires, it's a good idea to cancel payment but check back in a couple days. Ebay has a long leash but not when it messes with their money!

    Thanks, guys. I just canceled the payment. It doesn't feel like an outright scam, as the payment's been sitting unclaimed for like ten days. Oh well. I guess I'll go to Best Buy and pay twice as much for the same memory card.

    This is true. There are also lots of other ways to get NARU'ed that don't exactly mean you are trying to scam someone, like perhaps the person was trying to stop a fraudulent auction or his/her account could have been hijacked. Granted, the later two are unlikely, but I think saying you have been scammed is perhaps a little strong unless you have more information then provided in your post.

    Cancelling the payment and sending the selling an e-mail is what I would do.

  • Face it, this online stuff is a crapshoot... Paypal and eBay rules are always dynamic, but what's worked for me, so far;

    First, For selling, always move your PP funds to your checking. Bang, it's now protected from chargeback.

    When buying anything questionable (tough to say no to a terrific price), use PP and when checking out click 'Other method of payment'. Use a credit card and you're dubbly protected. -Try to pay your credit card charges before you're zing'd with the huge monthly intertest. but that's a strategy that I rarely follow.image

    When (not if) you've been stiffed, file a claim with PP and your CC. You're refund will be insured.
