Giant fans, can you blame him for retiring?

Tiki you will be sorely missed!

"This past season, Barber joined Marshall Faulk and Marcus Allen as the only NFL players with 10,000 yards rushing and 5,000 yards receiving. And the weekly punishment on his 5-foot-10, 205-pound frame has taken its toll.

He specifically remembers the second game of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles, who later defeated the Giants in the playoffs on a last-second field goal.

"Jeremiah Trotter. I think he hit me every play," Barber said. "I only rushed for 40 yards or so and we ended up coming back and winning the game but physically, I took a pounding."

Unlike previous years, it took until about Friday for Barber to recover.

"You start to realize this is a young man's game. This is for guys who can get hit, knocked up, beat up and be fine on Tuesday," he said."

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

    I could never understand why a guy would retire when he is essentially on top of his game, IE: Robert Smith, Barry Sanders and now Tiki Barber, but after a few articles in Sports Magazines, and reading about the troubles Ted Johnson is having from NFL action I can see why its a good move. Money, security does not meen a thing unless you have your health. Good for Tiki Barber and best of luck to him. Im sure we will see more of him on some type of NFL network.

    He is doing what he feels is best for him, he might end up regreting the decision. He wants to go into broadcasting which I find interesting.
    If you don't like what you are doing anymore and quit why do you want to hang around people still in the game?

    Michigan, I was agreeing that it was a good move by him. I USED to not understand why but now I know the punishment does take its toll, I think its a smart move....walk away from the game while you still can.

    The physical punishment can last a lifetime, Joe Montana retired long ago and he can still feel the pain in his body, same with John
    Elway. I'm sure the thought of "was it worth it" goes through their minds from time to time.

    Tiki has the advantage of being an intelligent guy who would likely succeed at whatever profession he chose, even if he had not been able to play football. He has fifty or sixty more years he has to live in that body.

    Jim Brown did it to become a movie star...
    So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

    Two of my teachers my senior year of high school(2002) who are married(a young couple), they both went to school with the Barbers. Anywho, nope I can't blame him a bit. Sometimes it's just a changing of the guard, and that's going to be happening to the Giants A LOT over the next year. It's already been going for on for a while now. I'd rather see him leave on top(which, he is a top running back in the league) then hobbling out as an old man.

    Very Smart move!!!

    Now he can start the next phase of his life. People under rate health way too much. he already has a HOF resume and if he can leave the game on top, more power to him.
