Where's a good place to find 18th Century British Pieces?
I'm in a class on the American Revolution, and I think it would be cool to pass around some pieces that circulated state-side during that time (read: professor was very interested that I'm a coin collector
)
Since all of my 18th century stuff is at home, and I wouldn't mind more (circulated, nothing fancy), I'm thinking about just buying a few more pieces. Any recommendations of good places to buy them, or is eBay my best bet? I'd like to get some silver and copper.
Thanks,
Jeremy

And I just got (but haven't worked into inventory) two George II pieces: a farthing and a halfpenny. Both 1750s, as I recall, in VG-ish grades.

<< <i>A 1787 shilling is fairly common and so are many copper issues if they are not red. I anticipate you could easily find some at the Baltimore show in March. George I and George II Crowns and 1/2 Crowns are fairly difficult to locate in an attractive state of preservation. A decent George II Shilling dated 1758 can usually be found for $125-160. This date is common but the others become though, especially the young head examples in EF and higher. Good luck with the search >>

It's a bit before my time - but I believe that we (UK) sent £2,000 of 1749 coppers to Massachusetts as payment for a military expedition. I think large numbers of regal farthings were included. It is a scarcer date overall so it might be a little pricey.

Maybe a Woods Irish as well.
Either of those would give you more history to talk about (as would some non regal or evasions)
