So,

Not much chatter about these lately. Whats going on? Has everybody pre-purchased their cases? From where and who?

    JS,

I know that you are pissed that it looks like production will be at a high for this product. Is THAT the reason?

Anybody else turned off enough by this to skip this years edition?

  • Last year was my first year collecting Heritage and I got in on it a few months too late. I can't wait for this year's set.

Dan, I'm in for a case. I ordered it before Kevin did his numbers. I'm not happy about the scenario he painted. I do know this - I won't be going hog-wild like the last couple of years. I'll crack my case and put together what I can from that. Hopefully I'll be very close to a master set. For chrome, I'll still be doing the regular chrome set, but not the refractors. IIRC from Kevin's post, chromes are falling something like three to a box, which obviously won't get me close. I'll purchase group lots from the and finish up with trades from there. Lastly, I'll be doing the relics. Last year, I grabbed every card I could from all groups as soon as they came available. This year, my focus will be to grab Group A as soon as possible, and then patiently wait for the rest to fall into place. Game used from any set are hot the minute they come out, but several months down the road they fade into oblivion as new product comes out. I'll grab those lower groups at that time.

I don't like Topps messin with something that's working.

I didn't do last year due to finances.

I have not pre-ordered a case. Will probably buy some hobby and just buy the retail blasters.

    Very disappointing.

And I will miss Kevin in the fray.

Geordie, Nice plan. I don't know what I am going to do yet. I LOVE this issue.

Mike, it is not encouraging that YOU are not encouraged about heritage. I can't picture myself not ripping box after box as the thread heats up ..... I don't know.

I am in for a case. I think Topps may have killed this golden goose. I think the long numbers are going to kill the chromes and refractors. I don't think the interest will be there. Topps probably thinks that they can stick it to the Heritage diehards and there will be some carry over from all of the Allen & Ginter collectors. All of the extra Mantle and ARod cards are going to get tiresome.

I still can't wait to tear into some.
Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason.
Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason.

  • The 1958 set was the first I ever collected so it is a must for me. I bought two cases (24 boxes).
I got them from lrcards, same for the last two years. What I usually do is build a set for myself, and sell the rest on eBay and use the proceeds to work on a vintage set.
  • I'm in for a case. Does anyone have the updated odds or a firm release date? My local dealer claims it has been pushed back to March. I hope that is not the case.
  • I've heard that every year. But I am concerned that the official checklist has not appeared on the Topps website. It's just a couple of weeks ahead and I'd like the list to use those wonderful excel programs that have appeared on this board.

Would you be able to elaborate a bit more on what you mean when you say "long numbers"?

The only two rumors I've heard about the Heritage product this year is that Topps is going to be printing many more cards, and there are extra ARod and Mantle cards that will be perceived as another subset or SP's.

Are you saying that Topps is sticking it to the real diehard set collectors by adding these extra SPs? Or are you saying the larger print runs are going to mean more common cards in boxes and less chances of pulling SPs?

Any insight is appreciated. I've collected every set since 2002 through Ebay and some trades on this forum (for the first time last year). I'm anxiously awaiting this year's product. I'm not big on the subsets, so I probably will skip the Mantle and ARod cards, but I'll be sure to put together the entire set along with all of the SPs.

I will still be doing the set this year.

I didn't do it last year - which was the first I missed.

So, I will be looking for trades!

The people here are great to trade with - this will be the 4th year with Heritage and CU - previous years I was on my own.

Ya can't beat it - so count me in!

  • Dealers are already pre-seller base sets, non-SPs.

As for SPs, I can't see Topps having half the set as SPs 110 regular cards, 330 chromes cards, 35 subset cards is bad enough. But to add the Mantle and ARod cards is criminal. It will be interesting to see how they value out. I'm surprised that Topps hasn't posted the info and checklist on its web site. It will be released in three weeks. Counting the days.

  • I ordered 2 cases of this this year. At an average of just over $50 a box with shipping on ebay. I thought that would be good since they are hobby and I have never seen a black chrome come out of any retail packs. In the past I have done very well on autos from retail, with the exception of last year. 8 retail (24 pk box's) from Target and about 10 (8 pk box's) later I never got any autographed cards. I got about 15 GU's but NO auto's. Retail is a good way to build the SP's though. I was pulling 8 to 9 Sp's out of the 8 pack retail box's. Sometimes more than 1 sp per pack. Which was great. I tried buying my cases from different area's of the country this year to see how I do. I have been looking on line and through dealers and found that Topps may have over produced its 2007 Heritage by up to 30% more cards this year. This could kill it for this year and next year. And I have seen the autograph list. The best auto cards on the list are Ryan Howard and David Wright. Wow talk about lack of big dollar potential. So even if you do pull a red ink auto out of your case the chances of getting one of those two now makes it like pulling a 1 of 1 that you probably wont get more than $100 for on ebay.
I am still going to build this set though obviously because even with all of the negative things that have come out about this set it is still the most interesting set to build out of the past years. Luckily I dont collect the autos, just the set, subset, and chrome's. It just sucks that everything else that I usually sell to offset my purchase price is SO WATERED DOWN!!!
Please if anyone gets information on when they will list the Short Print cards in the set please post it or email me at baily013@yahoo.com, I would really appreciate it, and maybe we could do some trading in the near future.
GOOD LUCK with all of your box's I would love to see some of those cut autos this year. Didnt see any on ebay last year.
