Juan Gonzalez wants to play again

Reports are that he wants to come back to get 500 homers. He's at 466 now. At the pace he's been on for the past 3 years he should get there around 2025. Maybe he had some 6 million dollar man surgery to fix his body, but me thinks not.

Even though he was a disaster for KC, (and Detroit, and Cleveland) there's no denying that he was one of the most vicious hitters in the game for about 10 years when healthy. I don't think he makes the HOF, but still very good in his prime.

  • He's in the Dale Murphy class in regards to productivity--great enough to win two MVPs, just not great enough over enough years to merit the hall of fame.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Agreed, I still remember his 100 rbi's before the all star break, what a feat.

  • I am sure Texas will take him back... like they did Sosa. LOL
  • yeah texas can field a lineup of old, crippled elderly men image the most feared lineup in the senior softball circuit~!

Yep. By far the worst decision ever made by a player. Best thing that ever happened to the Tigers...

I never knew what happened to that guy.

What kind of shape is he in? How old?

  • The 38-year-old has 434 career home runs and has driven in 1,404 runs in his 17-year career with Texas, Detroit, Kansas City and Cleveland, so he has a ways to go if he wants to reach 500.

He should sign with the Giants . . . he might actually decrease the team's average age if he did.

Juan Gone is a brittle shell of himself. I doubt he'd be able to play at the major league level again anytime soon. He was playing last season for the LI Ducks of the Independent League (which consists primarily of single A players and washups trying to make it back to The Show), and he was not impressive there at all. As always, he missed a number of games due to injury, too. He wasn't even the second or thid best hitter on that team so how can he expect to hit major league pitching with any kind of consistency or success?
